Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's next-gen upgrade will release on January 13, 2023. Dragon Ball video game fans have had a lot to enjoy in 2022 thanks to continued support for past titles in the franchise and new releases. Despite a brand new Dragon Ball game gearing up for release next week, Bandai Namco has now revealed the release date of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's anticipated PS5 and Xbox Series X/S release.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's next-generation upgrade was announced last month during Tokyo Game Show alongside news that developer CyberConnect2 will be continuing support for the game into 2023 with the release of DLC inspired by Bardock: The Father of Goku and a full second season pass with two more unannounced DLC packs to release later in the year. The next-generation upgrade will arrive first, however, as it is planned to release on January 13th for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and will include visual upgrades and 60 frames-per-second performance. The next-gen versions will be available as free upgrades for owners of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on PS4 and Xbox One.

Despite releasing the game all the way back in January 2020, Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 have continued to support Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot with multiple DLC packs based off films such as Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and Resurrection F, and even included a story inspired by the TV special The History of Trunks. The newly announced Bardock DLC will be the first in the game's second batch of DLC, which is expected to adapt more films and other media set either before or after the main events of the Dragon Ball Z manga. This season pass could also adapt parts of Dragon Ball Super, the original Dragon Ball manga, or even the non-canonical Dragon Ball GT.

Outside of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the Dragon Ball video game franchise is currently seeing major success with the upcoming release of Dragon Ball: The Breakers, and major updates for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and Dragon Ball FighterZ currently in development, including a rollback multiplayer update for the latter title. With this in mind, it might not yet be time to expect sequels for these titles, as Bandai Namco continues to experiment with the franchise with games like Dragon Ball: The Breakers.

Interestingly, this release date for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's next-gen upgrade lands on the same date as the release of One Piece Odyssey, another Shonen Jump manga video game adaptation from Bandai Namco Entertainment. It's safe to say that anime fans will have a lot to look forward to on January 13th, 2023.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will launch on January 13th 2023.
