The upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is shaping up to hit all the high points of the show. One of those high points was just revealed in the form of a classic fight between Goku and Vegeta, the Prince of Saiyans.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has promised to show every aspect of Goku's life, from eating to fighting. The fight against Vegeta before the beginning of the journey to Namek is one of the most important parts of that life, and it's treated that way.

The fight against Vegeta is a long, multi-stage affair, which is only appropriate for one of the most iconic fights of the show. The first phase sees Goku and Vegeta trading blows above a rocky canyon, with some powerful, wide attacks from Vegeta punishing Goku if he gets too close. This gets problematic quickly, as Vegeta begins unloading powerful long-range moves, from a barrage of homing shots to his trademark Galick Gun. As his health runs low, the view switches to overhead as Vegeta hurtles in from off-screen to deliver a devastating combo.

The second phase sees Vegeta enter his Great Ape form, and the fight changes dramatically. Great Ape Vegeta dominates the battlefield, leaping high and plummeting down to create craters, as well as blasting the Galick Gun out of his maw. He shrugs off projectiles in this form, so getting close appears to be the best option, provided players can keep Goku from getting swatted away.

The final phase occurs after Great Ape Vegeta gets the drop on Goku as he builds the Spirit Bomb, and sees Gohan engage the weakened Vegeta, now significantly less hairy. In the end, Vegeta is defeated by a combination of a Spirit Bomb bounced between Krillin and Gohan, and Gohan dropping on Vegeta while in his own Great Ape form.

Some may be disappointed that a few of the greatest moments of the fight, including the beam struggle between Goku's Kamehameha and Vegeta's Galick Gun, happen in cutscenes. Still, the overall fight is three diverse phases of raw Dragon Ball Z action. It's doubtful Great Ape form will be playable, but only time will tell for sure.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is scheduled for release on January 17th for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
