Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot fans' patience has finally paid off, as DLC 2 introduced Golden Frieza and the powerful new Super Saiyan Blue form to the mix. Though there was more content than the first DLC, many players have already finished up with most everything DLC 2 has to offer and are looking forward to what comes next. One popular theory suggests DLC 3 will adapt the Future Trunks Saga, and if that's true then that means the debut of Goku Black in Kakarot. This has some interesting implications, as his boss fight would likely be very different from others in the game so far.

For those Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot players that haven't been keeping up with everything new in the season pass, players can now go toe to toe with the God of Destruction Beerus and the evil emperor, Golden Frieza. These battles are the toughest the game has to offer, requiring players to be at max level in order to stand much of a chance and limiting things like items that players have relied upon in the past during tough fights. Though DLC 3 is a story arc and not just a boss battle episode, it is sure to have a boss at the end of it as well, and players have been running rampant with speculation since Golden Frieza was revealed as DLC 2's antagonist.

Goku Black in DBZ: Kakarot DLC 3

The first thing to examine is whether there's any chance Goku Black will make an appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 or not. Initially, many believed that the season pass would cover the first three arcs in Dragon Ball Super, starting with Beerus, moving on to Frieza, and then finishing with Hit, but a potential leak pushed fans to believe that this may not be the case. As it happens, the Future Trunks Saga makes a lot of sense for DBZ: Kakarot DLC 3.

The leak came in the form of a retailer's listing for the season pass, and was first discovered by DMGaming 5. On its website, Fanatical listed the third DLC as "Future Trunks Arc: HOPE!!" though it was never confirmed whether this was just a mistake on the part of the retailer or an accidental leak. This seemed a lot more plausible before DLC 2's antagonist was revealed, as skipping Golden Frieza seems a lot more viable than skipping the Universe 6 Saga, but at this point, anything goes.

Goku Black Boss Fight

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Adds Goku Black - Goku Black Kamehameha

As DLC 3 will be a full story arc rather than a single boss fight, players can expect to see whoever the antagonist ends up being more than once just like they did during Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's main story. In the case of Goku Black in Dragon Ball Super, he is seen doing battle with characters that are playable in Kakarot 15 distinct times at least, and there are several more off-screen battles that occur. Depending on how Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 decides to adapt the story of the Future Trunks Saga, Goku Black could be a recurring villain for several fights.

Some of these fights are against him by himself, while others include Future Zamasu as an ally. Similarly, the first couple of fights against Goku Black are before he figures out how to use his iconic Super Saiyan Rose transformation, meaning at some point he'll likely get a huge power boost. Finally, since he is in a Saiyan's body, Goku Black is also capable of receiving a Zenkai Boost, the stark increase in power that Saiyans attain after having a near-death experience. This happens to Goku Black several times throughout the arc, so players can expect him to steadily get stronger with each fight as well. This is a big mistake.

Goku Black Mechanics

Though it might seem like it would be the case, players shouldn't expect Goku Black to fight anything as Goku does. This is simply Zamasu inside Goku's body, and therefore his fighting style will be more reminiscent of that of the Kai rather than the Saiyan. This means he'll use some of his signature techniques, including the God Split Cut and potentially even his Sickle of Sorrow technique that allows him to summon a scythe made of dark energy.

In terms of the fight itself, players can also expect to be limited the first few times they fight him. Those that played through the Golden Frieza DLC will recall the first fight against the tyrant where Super Saiyan forms were restricted, and something similar will probably happen in DLC 3. Players won't be able to use their god forms against Goku Black until the point in the story when Vegeta goes Super Saiyan Blue, as this acts as a teaching moment for Goku Black that helps him unlock his own variant of the form. Finally, unlike the other boss battles in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, items will likely be usable against this enemy, as the characters used several Senzu beans during the show, though if there's a repeatable fight at the end they'll probably be disabled.

 Repeatable Goku Black Fight

Super Saiyan God Goku vs Base Goku

With every other DLC boss battle in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, players have been able to go back and repeat the fight as many times as they want for rewards and a challenge, but typically this makes sense within the canon of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. In the case of Beerus, he's sticking around and willing to fight Goku and Vegeta out of sheer boredom, and in the newest Golden Frieza DLC, the emperor is wished back and coerced by Beerus into not destroying the Earth. He then proceeds to train with the Saiyans in order to get stronger.

There doesn't seem to be any plausible way for this to happen for Goku Black. For starters, he and Zamasu fuse together permanently, but beyond that, they are completely erased from existence by Grand Zeno. The Dragon Balls wouldn't be able to wish them back, so the only theoretical way players could fight them is by using the Time Machine. Whether or not this would work remains to be seen, but it seems probable that this fight will only be replayable in the same capacity that boss fights from the main story are replayable.
