Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has finally revealed information about its season pass through a leak by credible Dragon Ball reporter, Dragon Ball Hype. Unfortunately, this leak was very vague and worded in a confusing manner, and while there are a lot of things to be excited about in regards to the upcoming DLC, there is also seemingly more uncertainty now than there was previously. One such issue takes the form of Super Saiyan God Vegeta and Goku, both of which are confirmed to be playable characters in the DLC, but it is this wording which has caused the confusion and sparked fear that Kakarot may make the same mistake Dragon Ball FighterZ did.

For those unaware, Ken Xyro, a Japanese translator and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot fan, shared this information about the upcoming DLC which was then further spread by Dragon Ball Hype. Among the information is claims that players will be able to fight Beerus, unlock new skills, and train with Whis to unlock the Super Saiyan God form. Oddly, though, Super Saiyan God Vegeta and Goku are stated to be playable characters rather than unlockable forms for the two saiyans, and this has some wondering if they will actually be separate from the base forms of Vegeta and Goku available now.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Big Roster Problem

Too many Gokus in Dragon Ball FighterZ

Something that the hugely successful Dragon Ball FighterZ game is often criticized for is its heavy focus on the franchise's main characters, Goku and Vegeta. Of the 37 current and confirmed characters on the roster, eight are variants or fusions of Goku or Vegeta (nine if Goku Black is counted). Given that Dragon Ball FighterZ has plenty of other highly requested characters it could add, many fans find only disappointment when another Goku or Vegeta variant is announced.

This has even become something of a meme, as many players will run teams consisting of only variants of Goku. Between Goku's Super Saiyan form, his Super Saiyan Blue form, his base form, Goku Black, and his GT form, there are several combinations of teams that can be made featuring only this one character. With Ultra Instinct Goku on the way soon, that problem will only be exacerbated. It is possible that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is falling into this trap as well, albeit to a much lesser extent. Even still, there are many other characters which are currently support only or NPCs which fans would rather see introduced.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC Features Playable SSG Vegeta and Goku

Super Saiyan God Goku and Vegeta

None can deny that the prospect of playing Vegeta and Goku at Super Saiyan God is an extremely exciting one, but why would they be listed as separate playable characters rather than new forms? It is entirely possible that the wording around this conundrum was simply a translation mishap, but given that this form can be unlocked before even completing the main story, would CyberConnect2 allow players to face Dragon Ball Z villains in Super Saiyan God form? That would be rather immersion breaking for a game which prides itself in staying true to source material.

If they are in fact separate characters, then it is likely they will only be playable in intermission periods, as the main story usually does not allow the player to swap their team around for important battles. It may be that they can be used in conjunction with the upcoming time machine update, but even this brings along a host of questions. Will they be usable as support characters as well? If so, fans would be able to use the time machine to fight Raditz again with Super Saiyan 3 Goku, Super Saiyan God Vegeta, and Super Saiyan God Goku, a fight which hardly seems fair.

Super Saiyan God Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

There are some other intriguing side effects of them being their own characters rather than transformations, however. For one, Vegeta isn't shown to use his Super Saiyan God form until the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie, so his ability to use it here confirms that he was always capable, but just preferred the Blue form. Even Goku, who uses the Super Saiyan God form in his battle against Beerus, rarely is seen using this form in Dragon Ball Super, so it will be nice to see it in action more.

Super Saiyan Blue is another topic worth exploring. Currently, there was no mention of Super Saiyan Blue or Golden Frieza in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's DLC, so it is highly likely that the story of Resurrection F will not be told during this season pass. Likewise, it is possible that Super Saiyan Blue will not make an appearance, but that depends seemingly entirely on whether or not Super Saiyan God is a form for Goku and Vegeta or new playable characters entirely.

If it is simply a new form, as most fans had come to expect, then it seems more likely that Super Saiyan Blue won't be available. Super Saiyan 3 already caps out at a 150% damage boost at max level, meaning SSG would be 200% and SSB would be an absurd 250% boost, the most powerful form in DBZ: Kakarot. If these forms are instead their own characters, it is very possible Super Saiyan Blue will be an unlockable form for them at a certain level, boosting their damage by maybe 100% like Super Saiyan 1 does for base Goku and Vegeta.

Ultimately, all of this is just speculation, but the official details will be revealed this Saturday, March 21st. It is still entirely possible that this is all a misunderstanding caused by mishap in translating, but there is some evidence backing up that they might end up being separate playable characters. On the other hand, it would seem very strange for DBZ: Kakarot's DLC to introduce alternate versions of existing playable characters rather than adding new ones or making characters that are currently regulated to support roles like Krillin and Android 18 playable instead. Time will tell, as assuming the DLC is not delayed, it is still slated to release sometime during or after the Spring of 2020.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
