It was recently revealed by Ken Xyro and Dragon Ball Hype (both credible Dragon Ball reporters) that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's first DLC would indeed feature Beerus and Whis and adapt the events of Battle of Gods to an extent, but not at all how fans had initially expected. Being that the base game focused so heavily on accurately retelling the story of the Dragon Ball Z anime, it seemed obvious that the DLC would do the same. Instead, it seems Kakarot's DLC is taking a different approach, one that has interesting implications for the rest of the mysterious season pass.

For those unaware, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's season pass has been available since January when the game released, but until just last week, fans had very little information about it. To make matters worse, there still has been no official word on it for western fans. What was revealed recently indicates that Super Saiyan God will be added to the game through training to unlock the form with Whis. Additionally, if the player completes Whis' training enough, they will be able to fight Beerus as well. This is a very strange way of handling things, as many were expecting a direct adaptation of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's Season Pass

Upon release, DBZ: Kakarot's season pass claimed it included "1 New Story Arc" and "2 Original Story Episodes." Whether or not those two story episodes would make up the new story arc or if they would be completely separate was (and still is) unknown, but with this new information, some guesses can be made. First of all, the training with Beerus' attendant, Whis, was referred to as the game's "Original Episode: New Awakening (First Half)." This naming implies that it is in fact one of two original story episodes.

The fight with Beerus wasn't described as such, and seems more likely to be an end game boss similar to Bonyu, former member of the Ginyu Force. Still, it is possible that New Awakening (Second Half) simply details Goku and Vegeta fighting Beerus. Not enough is known yet, and the game's confusing use of the terms story episodes and story arcs paired with the inevitability of certain translation errors make it really hard to guess at what's left on DBZ: Kakarot's season pass.

If in fact Whis and Beerus comprise the two original story DLCs, then what will the new story arc be? There are two main possibilities, the first of which sees these two story episodes make up one full story arc, meaning no additional content is waiting. The second possibility is that the story arc will explore events from further down Dragon Ball Super's story, and fans may see Golden Frieza in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. It's even possible the time machine could introduce new DLC opportunities based on the old Dragon Ball Z movies or even Dragon Ball: GT.

As was stated before, it is really too early to tell even still what exactly the enigmatic season pass has in store for players. It is wild that Bandai Namco has managed to keep its contents so well hidden for such a long time post release, only dropping bits of information here and there which tend to over confuse things rather than shed any light on the matter. Either way, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was such a huge success, the best thing fans can do while they wait for the DLC is trust the developers know what they are doing, and in the meantime they can play with the new time machine update arriving tomorrow.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
