Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has announced a second season pass that will include a Bardock Saga DLC, set to release in 2023. Since its launch in 2020, CyberConnect2 and Bandai Namco have continued to support Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the single-player RPG reimagining the events of the Dragon Ball Z portion of Akira Toriyama's iconic manga Dragon Ball. Since launch, it has received DLC based on content following Dragon Ball Z's story such as Battle of Gods and Resurrection F, and now it has been announced that it will receive a Bardock: The Father of Goku DLC in 2023 as part of a second season pass.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot first released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2020, and is an action-RPG. The game lifts gameplay mechanics from past CyberConnect2 games like Asura's Wrath and the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series, and features a wide variety of Dragon Ball characters including Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo as it recreates the entire Dragon Ball Z story, including some select filler episodes from the anime in the form of side-missions. The game was supported with healthy post-launch content in 2020, such as the Battle of Gods inspired DLC A New Power Awakens Part 1, and the Resurrection F inspired A New Power Awakens Part 2. In 2021, it received an original story inspired by the anime The History of Trunks titled Trunks: The Warrior of Hope.

Now, thanks to the game's continued success, Bandai Namco has announced at Tokyo Game Show that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be receiving an entire new season pass's worth of DLC in 2023, beginning with the launch of Bardock: Alone Against Fate. This will be followed by two more expansions, likely retelling other parts of the Dragon Ball story, alongside a next-gen version of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, which is also set to launch in 2023. It has not been confirmed whether this will include free upgrades for PS4 and Xbox One owners or not.

This will retell the events of Bardock: The Father of Goku, a TV special released in 1990 that follows Goku's father and his battle with Frieza to defend the Saiyans, which explains how Goku ended up on Earth at the beginning of Dragon Ball. This story was later adapted into the plot of 2019's Dragon Ball Super: Broly, which made it a part of official Dragon Ball canon. Screenshots reveal that players will control Bardock in new areas, including Planet Vegeta.

It's not yet known what the rest of the season pass will adapt, however it's likely that it will include reimaginings of more movies like Dragon Ball Super: Broly and possibly the recently released Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
