Christopher Ayres is the English dub voice actor for Dragon Ball Z's most influential villain, Frieza. He's voiced the character for over a decade now since his reintroduction in Dragon Ball Z Kai, which aired back in 2010 with the intent of streamlining the Dragon Ball Z anime by cutting away all of the show's filler.

Ever since November of 2017, Ayres has been battling COPD or "chronic obstructive pulmonary disease." It's an illness that attacks the lungs, making it very similar to that of the novel coronavirus going around right now. COPD clogs the lungs' airways, making it difficult to breathe. It also causes irreversible damage to them.

Ayres has kept fans up to date about his progress with the disease ever since his initial diagnosis. He recently underwent a very expensive double lung transplant surgery and is now struggling to deal with the cost of his medical bills, and so he's requesting assistance. The Dragon Ball Z voice actor set up a GoFundMe page yesterday with the goal of raising $75,000. As of this writing, donations have already reached a little over $15,000.

As expected, the page also provides the reasons behind its creation. According to Ayres, he found out the hard way why medical professionals refer to the double lung transplant as the "Million Dollar Surgery." Not only is the surgery itself expensive, but everything that follows is draining: two months of hospitalization, swallowing over 40 pills a day, and breathing and nebulizer treatments. Then there are the sanitation supplies necessary to avoid infections such as masks, wipes, and alcohol swabs, all of which are in low supply due to Covid-19. The inability to work until cleared just makes everything worse.

In response to his plight, Ayres' fellow voice actors have spread awareness of his situation. Christopher Sabot, the man behind the English dub voices for both Piccolo and Vegeta, tweeted to his followers, asking if they could "please help Frieza reach his ultimate form." The quote is a reference to one of Frieza's that's gone on to become one of the most infamous in anime history.

Anyone interested in supporting Ayres can check out Sabat's tweet, as it features a link to his GoFundMe page. Of course, times are tough for everyone due to Covid-19, so those interested should only donate if they're able. Frieza himself might not mind taking necessities from those in need, but Christopher Ayres certainly would, according to his fan base.
