Bandai Namco releases a new trailer for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, confirming Dragon Ball Super character Goku Black for the new game as a pre-order bonus.
The Dragon Ball Super anime series has yet to release outside of Japan, but a new character from the show is being introduced to franchise fans in other regions in the upcoming fighting game Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. As revealed in the game's latest trailer, the antagonistic and powerful character Goku Black will be a pre-order bonus playable fighter in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 when it launches later this month.
The new trailer for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 shows gameplay footage of Goku Black demolishing Super Saiyan God Vegeta. Goku Black appears to have a moveset similar to the original Goku, which can be seen in other Xenoverse 2 gameplay videos. However, there are some differences, with Goku Black's version of the Kamehameha wave imbued with a dark purple and black energy, as opposed to the bright blue blasts Goku and other characters unleash when they perform the move.
Regardless of the attacks he brings to the table, the inclusion of Goku Black in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 confirms previous fan theories that the game is tied to Dragon Ball Super. In the Dragon Ball Super anime (spoiler alert, for those waiting for the English translation), Goku Black is able to travel through time with a special ring, and in the story of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, villains from different timelines are converging to give our heroes trouble. While Goku Black's role in the Xenoverse 2 story isn't clear just yet, his presence makes it possible that he is the one allowing these villains to travel through time.
With the game scheduled to launch in just over a week, it's unlikely that Bandai Namco will divulge any further information on the plot of the Xenoverse sequel. However, it's easy to see how Goku Black and his unique abilities make him a strong contender for Xenoverse 2's primary villain. If he does play such an important role in the game's story, though, it's a little disappointing that many players will be unable to use Goku Black due to his status as a pre-order bonus exclusive.
Even though Goku Black may not be usable by Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 players that opt out of pre-ordering the game, there's still plenty of other fighters on the roster to choose from. Including Goku Black, there are 68 fighters in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 at last count, with fan favorites like Trunks, Piccolo, Majin Vegeta, the original Son Goku, Gohan, and many more featured in the game.
Fans of Dragon Ball will have a chance to battle it out as all of those familiar characters, new faces like Goku Black, and even their own custom fighters once Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 launches later this month.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will be available on October 25th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
