Ultra Ego is an ability that was recently introduced in Dragon Ball Super as a major power-up for Vegeta. Since Goku and Vegeta have almost always progressed together, this form can be seen as Vegeta's answer to Goku's Ultra Instinct, however, the two techniques are poles apart and function very differently from one another.

Although Vegeta has already showcased glimpses of this godly ability in the fight against Granolah, not everything about Ultra Ego is known just yet.

Updated May 7, 2022, by Rei Penber: Ultra Ego is an extremely powerful ability that Vegeta recently tapped into in the Dragon Ball Super manga. So far, this power is the greatest that he's ever acquired and he displayed it to the fans in the ongoing arc of the story. While this list contains most facts about Ultra Ego, Vegeta has gone on to redefine it in some ways over the course of the last few chapters. There are new things about the ability that the story has now revealed, and so, with that in mind, this list has been updated to include a few more details that every Vegeta fan should know about Ultra Ego.

10 Not Like Ultra Instinct

There are quite a few differences between Vegeta's Ultra Ego and Goku's Ultra Instinct. Apart from the fact that the very basis of the two powers is opposite to each other, there are also key differences in how they can be mastered. Unlike Ultra Instinct, Ultra Ego can be tapped into easily by the user once they awaken it completely. As seen during the Tournament of Power, Goku struggled to do that with his ability, and it wasn't until much later in the manga that he finally mastered it.

Furthermore, another key difference between the two is that Ultra Ego can be tapped into even when Vegeta is in a severely damaged state and the same doesn't hold true for Ultra Instinct, as was the case throughout the many battles that Goku fought with this power. Despite that, both are incredibly powerful abilities and are useful in their own ways.

9 Vegeta's Second On-Panel Transformation

Vegeta rarely gets to be the focus of any major arc in the Dragon Ball series and even in Dragon Ball Super, that holds true. In the series, this is only the second transformation that he unlocked on-panel and all the others were learned or mastered by him off-panel at some point. The very first transformation that Vegeta unlocked on panel was the Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form, which took his powers even beyond the level of a Super Saiyan Blue user.

After training with Beerus and mastering the power of Hakai, Vegeta managed to tap into Ultra Ego and this ended up becoming his second on-panel transformation in Dragon Ball Super. In the future, it is likely that fans will see him take his powers to an even further level. However, for now, Vegeta still needs to master the powers of Ultra Ego that he has very recently tapped into.

8 The Users Of Ultra Ego

Although Vegeta was taught the concept of Ultra Ego by Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe 7, the transformation itself is unique to him. Characters such as Beerus can make use of this ability, but Vegeta is the only one who has access to the transformation of Ultra Ego.

This is very much like Ultra Instinct which can be utilized by a few characters in the story already but the transformation itself can only be accessed by Goku.

7 A Fitting Ability

Vegeta in the Granolah The Survivor Saga of Dragon Ball Super

Ultra Ego is a very fitting ability for Vegeta to have and it goes along well with his personality. In the past, Vegeta has tried to make use of Ultra Instinct and failed because it wasn't suited to him.

However, Ultra Ego is a power that comes rather easily to him as it is based on destroying instead of being the peak of martial arts in the series. As the name suggests, one needs to have an egotistical mentality to use this which is why it is so fitting for Vegeta.

6 Connection To The Gods Of Destruction

Beerus using Hakai

Ultra Ego is a power that stems from destroying and it isn't a surprise to know that all the Gods of Destruction make use of this ability, given that they possess terrific destructive power up their sleeve.

Vegeta, who received training from Beerus in the ways of destroying, was only able to tap into this power by bringing forth his destroyer personality. For someone like Goku, this technique would be nearly impossible to master, just as Ultra Instinct was very difficult for Vegeta to master.

5 Destruction On Contact

Ultra Ego is an incredible ability to have in one's arsenal and Vegeta certainly proved that when he took on Granolah in combat in the Granolah the Survivor saga of the story. Making use of the Power of Destruction, Ultra Ego destroys anything when it comes in contact with the flame-like aura that the user produces from their body.

Its power is very similar to the Hakai ability that fans have seen Beerus use on several occasions in the Dragon Ball Super series, however, the user also gets surprisingly stronger in this state, making it much better than the regular application of the Hakai power.

4 The Perfect Saiyan Ability

Dragon Ball Vegeta's Sacrifice

According to Vegeta, Ultra Ego works best when the user takes more damage and relishes the battle that they're fighting. By doing so, they allow their power to increase further through their lust for battle, which makes it almost a perfect ability for a Saiyan to learn.

This is because the Saiyan race is known to relish combat and get stronger the more they fight. This concept was introduced in Dragon Ball quite early and has stayed consistent ever since. Expectedly, this was also brought forward by Ultra Ego Vegeta when he fought Granolah and fared well against him.

3 The Downsides Of Ultra Ego

Ultra Ego Weaknesses

Ultra Ego is an incredible power, however, with every massive power comes a drawback and it isn't spared from having one either. Ultra Ego's biggest downside is that by losing themselves in the lust for battle, the user can, at times, take a very high amount of damage which then shifts the tides of the battles completely against them.

By maintaining a perfect state of mind, the user can tap into this ability perfectly and then make full use of the power boost that is granted to them through Ultra Ego.

2 The Power Of Ultra Ego

Vegeta Ultra Ego Power

The power offered by Ultra Ego is certainly immense, as seen during Vegeta's fight against Granolah. Even though Granolah was described to be the strongest in the universe, Vegeta's raw power when using Ultra Ego made him stumble in fear.

In fact, when the two fought, it was quite clear to see that Ultra Ego Vegeta had the upper hand for the majority of the fight, however, losing himself to the lust of the battle is what caused him to take more damage than necessary and eventually, losing the fight. Nonetheless, Vegeta was back up on his feet soon and tapped into Ultra Ego once again.

1 The Resemblance To Super Saiyan 3

Dragon Ball Goku Super Saiyan 3

Evidently, Ultra Ego makes Vegeta look quite different, with the biggest difference apart from his bulkier body being his eyebrows disappearing. This makes the form somewhat similar to Super Saiyan 3 in appearance.

Interestingly, it is believed that Ultra Ego could possibly have been based on one of Toriyama's initial concepts for Super Saiyan 3 before he decided to go ahead with the one that fans associate with the form today. The powers of the two forms, however, are completely different from each other.
