There’s a new Dragon Ball Super movie coming out in June 2022, with a global release planned to be in around August 2022. The movie is called Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. There are a lot of things to be excited about with this new movie, such as the fact that the screenplay is an original story written by Akira Toriyama himself, and it will also be the first Dragon Ball movie that predominantly uses 3D animation.
The main villain of this new movie is The Red Ribbon Army. Avid Dragon Ball fans will surely know who Red Ribbon Army is. After all, they have been an obstacle in Goku’s way before. But for new fans who are still relatively new to the series, this article will tell you everything that you need to know about the Original Red Ribbon Army.
Who Was The Original Red Ribbon Army?
The Red Ribbon Army was a huge evil organization that involved in terrorism and various criminal activities. At the time, it was one of the most infamous organizations in the world. The name “Red Ribbon” itself came from their logo, which is a red bow tie with two letters “R” on it.
It was unfathomable how powerful and influential the Red Ribbon Army was during its heyday. They have countless soldiers under their payroll, they have a cutting-edge research division who can regularly churn out advanced military tech, they have secret bases all over the world, and every soldier is equipped with proper weapons. Bulma even stated that the full might of earth’s military won’t be able to take on the Red Ribbon Army.
The Red Ribbon Army was led by a man called Commander Red. Likewise, all of his top executives also used various colors as their codenames. The White Corps that focuses on arctic warfare was led by General White, the aerial division called the Silver Corps was led by Colonel Silver, there’s also the naval division of the Blue Corps that was helmed by General Blue, and many others.
The Connection Between Goku and The Red Ribbon Army
The Red Ribbon Army made its first appearance back in the original Dragon Ball anime and manga. The one where Goku was still just an energetic child with absurd physical prowess. At the time, Goku was on a mission to find the four-star dragon ball. The one given to him by his late grandfather.
Coincidentally, the Red Ribbon was also looking for the dragon balls. They heard about the mystical balls that can grant every wish, and they wanted to get their hands on it. So Commander Red dispatched the full might of the Red Ribbon Army to conduct a large-scale search for dragon balls.
During his search, Goku stumbles across the army, who was also in the middle of dragon ball hunting. Goku defeated one of the organization’s top executives, but unfortunately, the news that Goku has a radar that can easily locate the dragon balls manage to slip into Commander’s Red ear. So he decided to turn their focus on Goku instead.
What Happened to The Red Ribbon Army?
Once the Red Ribbon Army decided to hunt Goku in order to get his dragon radar, they would use everything in their disposal to get what they wanted. They even went as far as barged in on the Kame house and took Goku’s friends as hostages, including Bulma, Krilin, and even the turtle master himself.
For the most part, Goku can beat everybody from the Red Ribbon Army, but the one that gave him the most trouble was General Blue, a twisted man who initiated the aforementioned hostage situation.
However, once Goku managed to defeat General Blue, he stormed the Red Ribbon Army’s headquarters and single-handedly took down the entire organization. Goku destroyed so much stuff to the point that the organization basically had nothing left but the clothes on their body.
The New Red Ribbon Army
After Goku, the Red Ribbon Army has basically fallen under the radar to the point that not many people even remember who they were. That being said, a remnant of their power still pops up from time to time to create some problems. The biggest one of them all was Dr. Gero and his killer androids.
That brings us nicely to the plot of the upcoming movie. Using what they’ve learned from the data left by Dr. Gero research, the Red Ribbon Army created much stronger androids, codenamed Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. Both of these androids will be the main villain of the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. The original Red Ribbon Army was a bunch of crazy and yet hilarious groups of villains. Let’s see if there’s any trace of the original organization left in this new iteration.
