The introduction of the Super Saiyan form completely changed the power dynamics in Dragon Ball. The series would run through its Saiyan characters, with Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and others dictating how major battles would turn out. There have been a multitude of Super Saiyan variants since the form was first established, but one, in particular, stands out from the rest.

Though the first iteration of the Legendary Super Saiyan didn’t end up being canon, the extremely powerful and rare transformation would be reintroduced in Super; first with Universe 6’s Kale, and later on with the reintroduction of Broly. The two counterparts are very similar in terms of strength and have shown that they can easily outmatch even the most experienced fighters. With Broly leaving a strong first impression on the fan base, it’s normal to wonder just how Kale compares to Universe 7’s Legendary Super Saiyan.

How Strong is Kale?

Kale is shown to be very timid outside of her berserker-like Legendary Super Saiyan form. She is much more like the original iteration of Broly compared to the Super version of the character. This masks her unique strength, but also puts her at a disadvantage whenever she’s not in Super Saiyan form.

As a Legendary Super Saiyan, Kale greatly outmatches her Universe 6 Saiyan counterparts. She can easily handle both Cabba and Caulifa while in their Super Saiyan forms, and though her inexperience puts her at a disadvantage over fighters like Goku and Vegeta, she has incredible potential. It’s clear that Kale has the highest Ceiling of any Universe 6 Saiyan, and though she still needs to work on consistently controlling her power, she made major strides throughout the Tournament of Power.

When she’s in control of her power, Kale stands as one of the strongest characters in the series. But whereas Broly spent most of his life fighting to survive on Vampa, Kale was less active due to her passive nature. Fans will need to see more out of Universe 6’s Legendary Super Saiyan before they can really get an idea of where she stands in the franchise’s hierarchy.

How Do They Compare?

Though Broly was shown to be highly capable in his base form, Kale is much more limited in her pre-Super Saiyan form. This is normal for most Saiyans, as Broly’s incredible strength seems to come from the years he spent training and surviving on Vampa. Kale’s true potential and raw ability don’t begin to show until after she’s transformed.

Both Kale and Broly stand as some of their Universe’s strongest fighters, thanks to their ability to utilize the incredibly rare and powerful Legendary Super Saiyan transformation. Kale in particular is likely Universe 6’s most powerful resident outside of Champa and Vados, as Broly has Goku and Vegeta to compete with.

Legendary Super Saiyan Kale makes a huge impact in the Tournament of Power, overpowering her fellow Universe 6 Saiyans and even going head-to-head with Super Saiyan 2 Goku. While Goku was holding back in their confrontation, Kale showed enough potential that Jiren acknowledged her as one of the fighters he would need to confront himself.

In terms of strength, Kale and Broly seem to be pretty even. Broly’s technique is much more raw and unrefined given his lack of training. Kale seems to win out in terms of fundamentals, which coupled with the strength of the Legendary Super Saiyan makes her a formidable foe. Broly might have the higher ceiling, as he pushed both Vegeta and Goku into a corner during their bout, and was only overmatched once the two fused.
