The Dragon Ball series is easily one of the biggest shonen series of all time, with its influence being palpable all throughout pop culture to this day. The stories of Goku, Vegeta, and the rest of the characters can prove to be extremely riveting at times, and one need only look at the massive fan following of Dragon Ball Super — a show that was released decades after the original anime ended its run — to understand why this is the case. From the incredible fights to the eye-catching powerups — Dragon Ball Super is a spectacular celebration of everything people love about the series.

Of course, one can't talk about Dragon Ball Super without mentioning the new characters it introduces as well. These new fighters are quite notable in their own right, with Whis being one such figure who has become integral to the events of Dragon Ball Super. His powers are awe-inspiring, and it's no wonder that this Angel has mentored some of the toughest fighters in Universe 7. The following four individuals have been mentored by this powerful angel firsthand, and one need only look at the names on this list to understand just how incredibly powerful Whis really is.

4 Beerus

Beerus Annoyed

Dragon Ball Super started off with the introduction of two new characters, Beerus and Whis — the former being a formidable God of Destruction and the latter seeming like nothing more than a composed attendant. The power of the Destroyer God was present for all to see, making quick work of the most powerful fighters on the planer. Only Vegeta managed to land a solid blow, and that was after he flew into a rage.

It was only with the power of Super Saiyan God that Goku managed to fight Beerus on "even" footing... only to realize that the God was holding back in this fight. So, when it was revealed that Whis was actually Beerus' mentor and was somehow even more powerful than this absolute monster, viewers finally realized that the scale of power in this series was going to be taken to entirely new heights altogether.

3 Vegeta

Dragon Ball Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta

After figuring out that Goku had "absorbed" the power of Super Saiyan God and transcended to new heights in power, it was only a given that Vegeta would try his hardest to make up this gap... and the method he chose was quite crafty as well. Unbeknownst to Goku, Vegeta ended up requesting Whis to train him... and the Angel said yes. The six months that he spent with Whis without Goku allowed him to bridge the gap and unlock a new level of power in him — god ki.

This allowed Vegeta to unlock the Super Saiyan Blue transformation and raise his power level to new heights. The fruits of his labor can be seen all over Dragon Ball Super, with his presence in battle contributing to some of the most memorable moments in the show.

Of course, Vegeta could only train along for so long — it was only a matter of time before his biggest rival would find out about this particular situation, and he wasted no time in reacquainting himself with the Angel...

2 Goku

It was only a given that one of the most powerful and iconic characters in the Dragon Ball series would train under the most powerful mentor on the show, and Goku certainly didn't disappoint in this regard. After going back to his peaceful life post Beerus' departure from Earth, Goku found out about Vegeta's secret training. So, obviously enough, he wasted no time in following in his rival's footsteps and catching up to unlock the potential of his god ki.

From obtaining the Super Saiyan Blue form to honing his skills with Ultra Instinct, Goku has learned perhaps the most under Whis. It's clear that the Angel's mentorship played a huge role in Goku's massive power surge... but that's not to say that the Saiyan wasn't proactive by himself as well. The fact that he managed to merge the power of Super Saiyan Blue along with the calming focus of the Kaio-ken speaks volumes when it comes to his own natural potential as a warrior.

1 Merus

Merus Vegeta and Moro

While he might not have appeared in the anime, people who are up to date with the manga would be well aware of Merus — a powerful figure introduced in the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga who showcased a wealth of potential with his fighting ability, to the point where he even ended up training on equal footing with someone as powerful as Goku. During one such training session, Whis entered the fray and decided to switch things up, forcing both fighters to stop sparring and engage in a proper battle to develop their skills.

During this interruption, a number of things were revealed about Merus that established his connection with Whis. For starters, he was actually a trainee Angel who is one of the most powerful beings in the Multiverse... or, at least, he would be one once he managed to control and utilize his power properly. He was also revealed to be Whis' younger brother — a fact that pretty much confirms that Whis definitely mentored the powerful fighter in some ways.
