Bandai Namco confirms that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's turn-based card battle mode, Dragon Ball Card Warriors, will be shutting down its online services sometime next year. This mode was announced shortly after the game's initial launch in 2020, as part of a free update to the game. Dragon Ball Card Warriors was a fast-paced card battle game that had the players dueling it out to see who could reduce the HP of their opponent's team leader to zero. The Switch version of the game would see a delay of this mode being implemented, though it was finally added earlier this year.

However, despite players finding the mode a nice change of pace from the normal gameplay, others believed Dragon Ball Card Warriors should have been its own game instead of being tacked onto the already released Kakarot. The amount of microtransactions in order to buy other cards and continue playing was also a sticking point for some, especially with Kakarot already being a fully priced game. While the online functions will be shut down, Card Warriors will still be playable in some form.

In a blog post from Bandai Namco, it states that once Card Warriors' online service shuts down, an offline version of the mode that will be playable in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot against the CPU. With this mode being shut down, player profiles and cards will be able to continue being used in the CPU battle mode via a data transfer function that will be added in the future.

While there are a few items that will be transferred into this offline version, one of these items that won't be carried over are the Platinum Coins, which are used to obtain card packs and other items in the Card Warriors mode. The blog post notes if the player has these coins and they haven't been used yet, especially if they bought them through a microtransaction, they should spend all of these coins before the game's expiration date, which will be announced at a later date.

In regards to the next-gen versions of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, a free update will add an offline version of Dragon Ball Card Warriors, which has been redesigned from the online version. As for other upcoming content involving Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, another season pass was recently announced for the game, with the first expansion focusing on Bardock, the Father of Goku.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. It will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
