For all its wealth of IP holdings and powerful franchises, Wizards of the Coast hasn't had all that much luck with its video game outings over the years. Time and again, the company has tried breaking through, but it's yet to truly capture the RPG video game audiences with a real smash hit, though its latest investment in this regard may be its most prominent one yet.Namely, Wizards of the Coast has now founded an all-new game development studio by the name of Skeleton Key, and its focus seems to lie in fully fledged AAA game production. Perhaps most importantly, Skeleton Key is being headed by Christian Dailey, a former BioWare executive and one of the people responsible for Dragon Age's success as a flagship RPG title.RELATED: Star Wars: The Old Republic Creative Director Leaves BioWare After Over a DecadeDailey took to Twitter earlier today to announce that Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast were hiring him to head Skeleton Key from the very start. Dailey's previous work includes a wide variety of prominent BioWare projects, one of the most prominent of which was Dragon Age: Origins. Billed as one of the most inventive and complex fantasy worlds in all gaming, Dragon Age is a huge cornerstone of Dailey's career, and it's bound to make him a key asset for Skeleton Key in the long run.

Also noteworthy is that Christian Dailey was working on Anthem 2.0. While that project never took off properly, Dailey's team worked hard on reviving the game after its widely panned release, which gives him key experience in working on live-service titles. This, too, may be an avenue that Wizards of the Coast may wish to explore with Skeleton Key in the future, though the studio is yet to announce much of anything about its first AAA production.

Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro have been bulking up their game production capabilities over the past couple of years, by the looks of it. Last September, Hasbro announced its New Raleigh-Durham Studio, whose first major project is a third-person G.I. Joe action game. It stands to reason that Hasbro may be focusing on the action and adventure side of the equation, while Wizards of the Coast's new Skeleton Key may be leaning towards the RPG part of the spectrum, instead.

Though Dailey may have left behind his career at BioWare, his former employer is hard at work on producing Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. It's still very early to tell how Skeleton Key's first game might compare to the fan-favorite Dragon Age outings, of course, but it's a safe bet that Wizards of the Coast took Dailey's pedigree in game production very seriously during the hiring process. RPG fans should, therefore, stay tuned.
