Dragon Age is one of Bioware's most loved gaming franchises, with three main game titles to its name, as well as several spin-off titles in mobile, browser, and table-top role-playing game formats. It also has a host of extra content in the form of books and graphic novels. Even the least favorite of the series, Dragon Age 2, is still loved by fans and has provided players with some favorite characters and plot points.

When it comes to popular franchises with large fan-bases, it's only natural that the fan art is quick to follow, so here's a look at ten brilliant pieces of Dragon Age fan art. Spoilers ahead!

10 Commander Cullen Tarot

One of the great things about the Dragon Age series is the gorgeous official artwork that features within the game, as well as concept artwork released in book form. In Dragon Age: Inquisition there were many images based on tarot card designs, presenting beautiful images of the characters, locales, and creatures from within Thedas. These cards were actually physically made and released as part of the collector's edition.

Companions have more than one tarot design, visible when you choose who to take in your party, and these images change depending on their current personal quest status and the choices you may have made. Though not a companion, Commander Cullen's official card was noticeably dissimilar to his actual features, so it's great to see Eleonor Piteria's more accurate presentation of our favorite advisor.

9 Merrill

Dragon Age is rich with its own lore and culture and one of the amazing results of this is the varying races and individual characters that players can encounter during their adventures. Arguably, Bioware creates some of the most in-depth character personalities and this is particularly impressive when you consider the multileveled aspects of characters depending on whether they like you, dislike you, or are romance targets.

This fan art of potential companion Merrill from Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 by Shalizeh7 is a beautiful representation of not only one of the individual personalities Bioware has lovingly created, but also the Dalish elf culture too.

8 Custom Inquisitor Icons

The great thing about the Dragon Age series is that players are able to create their own heroes; changing their looks and roles to make the protagonist their own. This really enables fans to personalize their journey and has prompted a great deal of fanfiction based on original characters.

In Dragon Age: Inquisition your party companion icons change depending on the damage taken, but as the protagonist is customizable, the icon for your own character is just a hand that changes from green to red. Artist Kaj has cleverly created their own icons based on their custom inquisitor character while keeping in style with the official art of the in-game icons.

7 Dorian Pavus

Fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment to the Dragon Age franchise, which fans believe is going to feature the previously unseen Tevinter Imperium area. The best source of information fans have had of this exotic land was in the form of mage companion, Dorian Pavus, from Dragon Age: Inquisition, who is a fan-favorite character.

This unique different take on Dorian by artist Mr Nicholas reminds players of the potential of the Dragon Age universe. Here we are given a glimpse of Dorian with longer hair in what appears to be the Tevinter Imperium. It's not hard to imagine this possibility becoming reality for Dragon Age 4 as the last we saw of Dorian in the Trespasser DLC was him stating that he wished to return to his homeland to reform it. There are a few other characters that fans hope to return in the next game.

6 Commander Cullen

Dragon Age games just wouldn't be the same without the romance options and this feature is most definitely a fan-favorite aspect. Dragon Age: Origins was a bit more open as to who you could romance/pursue at any one time, allowing you to earn the accolades for most romances in one playthrough. However, Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition were a lot more linear in terms of chasing characters, though the romance itself was expanded with more scenes and conversations.

This beautiful fan art of Commander Cullen and the Inquisitor by The Real McGee reminds players of what it's like to woo their favorite characters, leaving fans wondering what the romance options will be in the next installment.

5 Morrigan

The Dragon Age series offers up multiple classes that players can adopt for their hero, as well as specializations that can further customize their role in the game. This feature not only allows players to personalize their characters more but also provides varying gameplay experiences based on the role you choose for yourself. Players will also generally build their companion parties to compliment their own role, for instance, if the player is a mage they may not use a companion mage.

This spellbinding image of Morrigan by artist Kim Kincaid is a brilliant example of one of the classes that the world of Dragon Age offers up with its sense of magic and intrigue.

4 Solas

Another great element to the Dragon Age franchise is its intricately woven plot lines, history, and lore, delivering expert story-telling that leaves players wanting more. The interesting history of the world of Thedas and beyond encourages players to delve more into side-quests and collect codexes to discover more information.

The Dragon Age: Inquisition storyline was particularly good at surprising fans with a couple of twists and turns, most notably about Solas being the Dread Wolf. This made him the cause of all the Inquisitor's problems, even if he didn't intend for things to necessarily happen that way. It's likely Solas could be one of the antagonists of Dragon Age 4, but perhaps there's still time for him to be redeemed. This beautiful fan art of Solas and Lavellan the Inquisitor by Nipuni reminds fans of his betrayal while delivering some stunning Klimt vibes.

3 Deep Roads

It's hard not to fall in love with the exquisite world that the Dragon Age series creates for its players, especially in Dragon Age: Inquisition where fans were unleashed into an open-world environment. The game provided sprawling landscapes with a range of climates, fauna, flora, and history for players to delve into.

This dynamic fan art of the Deep Roads by Linda Lithen reminds us of how vast and varied the world is, offering up a myriad of unique and interesting environments for players to explore at their heart's content.

2 Leliana

With three main games already released, it's not surprising that some characters appear in more than one game. When this is combined with Bioware's expert story-telling, players get to witness some interesting character evolutions, especially depending on personal choices made by the player.

This stunning fan art of Leliana by Crystalvfae reminds us of this particular character's journey. Leliana begins as a light-hearted Orlesian bard who wishes to become a sister of the Chantry but goes on to become an assassin and spymaster. Depending on player decisions, Leliana can become quite cold and unfeeling, a complete contrast to her initial personality. Additionally, she can also end up as the new Divine at the end of Inquisition, which may impact Dragon Age 4's gameplay.

1 Anders

One thing that the Dragon Age series definitely has plenty of is humor. The games are certain to give players a chuckle from their many jokes and humorous moments, but there are also plenty of scenarios and character quirks that weren't necessarily meant to be funny but become meme-worthy amongst fans.

This funny fan image of Anders by Xeno_Guardian takes inspiration from Flynn Rider from Tangled and reminds us of the funny side to Dragon Age that fans have come to know and love. The games just wouldn't be the same without the comedy.
