Dragon Age's class specializations have existed in Dragon Age: Origins and are different from the basic Rogue, Mage, and Warrior class choices. They are more detailed and require getting more into the story, usually with their own side quests. Some specializations are even companion-specific, such as Knight-Enchanter with Vivienne in Dragon Age: Inquisition and Berserker with Oghren in Dragon Age: Origins.

With Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in development, new class specializations are sure to come. Based on the class specializations in the past, the future will likely depend on the Tevinter setting and the companions. Some specializations will be new while others will likely be callbacks previously used specializations in earlier titles.

Warriors In Tevinter

In Dragon Age's lore, Tevinter is known for its magic, not its warriors. However, there will no doubt be warriors in Tevinter in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. The question is what kind of warriors exist in Tevinter. The warrior specializations that have existed since the first Dragon Age game include Berserker, Champion, Reaver, Templar, Guardian, and Spirit Warrior.

Some of these already known class specializations would certainly fit in with Tevinter lore. Templars are a big one. Despite Tevinter being ruled by mages, the nation does have its own Templar Order. They are known as the Imperial Templar Order, and it is widely known they do not have real power but exist to maintain an illusion of the international status quo. However, that does not mean the protagonist of Dreadwolf cannot be a Templar. In fact, it may be more useful to have Templar skills in Tevinter than anywhere else.

Another possibility is the return of the Spirit Warrior specialization. This was a specialization unique in Dragon Age: Awakening with Justice. It is basically a warrior class that employs magical abilities and skills. These warriors actually interact with Fade inhabitants, allowing them to glimpse at the mortal world for an exchange of power. Tevinter, being full of mages, may even encourage non-magic users to try this specialization, as magic and power mean everything in their nation.

Lastly, the Reaver specialization will likely return. It has been in most Dragon Age games, and Tevinter's connection to dragon worship certainly is worth exploring. Reavers drink dragon blood for power and many see it as blood magic but for the warrior class. This is another power-hungry class that sees blood as power, which very much suits Tevinter's magically ruled nation. The dragon connection is also special, as Tevinter once worshipped dragons.

In terms of new classes, Mage Killers or Fog Warriors could be interesting. Mage Killers could be a great idea for Tevinter, as they are detailed in the comics but not yet in the games. Fog Warriors could be an interesting specialization, as they are freedom fighters from Seheron that seek to be independent of the Tevinter Imperium and the Qunari.

Rogues In Tevinter

Rogues are typically the class of those who work in the shadows. They are often underdogs who fight less for glory and more for freedom or murder. Previous rogue specializations have been Assassin, Duelist, Ranger, Shadow, Legionnaire Scout, Tempest, and Artificer.

Tevinter has a ton of oppression, which is the kind of environment where rogues rise up. Those in power will hire rogues to kill their rivals and those who are oppressed can become thieves and killers for survival. With all this in mind, Assassin is bound to make a comeback. It is very likely to be connected to the Antivan Crows as well, as Dragon Age: Tevinter Nights hinted that the Crows have a lot of inner turmoil happening that Dreadwolf may get into.

Shadow is another rogue class likely to come up in Dreadwolf. Tevinter's oppression and slavery will likely create a lot of shadow rogues that freed themselves and may seek to free others. Shadow rogues are unorganized, self-taught, and are known to ambush their enemies and hide whenever possible. They are also known to use poisons and daggers.

In terms of new rogue specializations, there was a teaser image of someone with a magic bow. This could hint at a new specialization like a sharpshooter. Another teaser showed an image of Isabella, and that could possibly be a hint of a pirate or thief specialization.

Mages In Tevinter

Mages are the main class of Tevinter, but for fairness' sake, they will likely have no more or no fewer specializations than the rogues and warriors. One of the big questions is blood magic. It has been used as a specialization in every game except for Inquisition. Blood magic is a magic of dire consequences and strong opinions, so working that into an RPG is a lot of extra work for just a single specialization. As such, it is not likely that blood magic will be a specialization in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Mage specializations used in the past are Arcane Warrior, Blood Mage, Shapeshifter, Spirit Healer, Battlemage, Keeper, Force Mage, Knight-Enchanter, Necromancer, and Rift Mage. Due to Tevinter's mage-centered nation, a lot of these specializations are possible. However, some have more likelihood than others. Necromancy is quite likely not only because the Tevinter character Dorian practiced it in Inquisition, but it was also explored more in Dragon Age: Tevinter Nights.

Specializations like Knight-Enchanter and Force Mage can also make a comeback, as they were both very popular specializations in the past. Fans loved how a Force Mage could control gravity and enjoyed the raw power of the Knight-Enchanter. Since Tevinter is all about magic, mage specializations are fair game. It is also a great chance to introduce new magic specializations. These could include a Dreamer, Summoner, or Plant-based magic specialization.
