This past week BioWare confirmed that it wouldn't be participating in Electronic Arts' plans for several EA Play gaming events throughout the month of July. That means that no news regarding Dragon Age 4 or the next Mass Effect will be shared for some time, as BioWare's deep in ongoing development. That doesn't mean that BioWare can't tease its fans about its ongoing work on Dragon Age 4, however, which is precisely what executive producer Christian Dailey has chosen to do.

Dailey is the BioWare employee that first shared news regarding the company's decision not to participate in EA Play this year. Alongside the announcement, which was made on Twitter, Daily also dropped a new piece of concept art for Dragon Age 4. The piece of art is rife with exciting details that should make Dragon Age fans very happy, but is aesthetically interesting from a basic point of view, too.

The Dragon Age 4 concept art features a woman standing among a city's rooftop, gracefully balanced on one leg. She's wearing a long black cape, an avian black mask, and all black leather. In one hand, she wields an ornate cutlass. At her waist, she has a sheathed dagger, as well as a strange blue potion. She's also, notably, smiling. Around her, several other masked figures appear to be fighting guards in white armor mid-air, though it's possible they're all simply falling. To one side of the image, several people watch from a balcony. They may even be cheering.

At one corner of the image is an emblem that sheds light on the image's context. These are the Antivan Crows, an organization of thieves and assassins. Dragon Age players may recall that Zevran from Dragon Age: Origins was a Crow. The original game's protagonist could even do work for the assassins. Fans are already leaping to conclusions. Perhaps Antiva will be a location in Dragon Age 4, or perhaps the player can join the Antivan Crows faction. Perhaps there's an Antivan Crow companion, or perhaps Zevran will return and play a larger role.

One thing that few are talking about is what the action of the image could imply. These assassins are fighting mid-air, which is not a traditional gameplay experience in Dragon Age. It's possible that it's just capturing the athletic ability and magic of the Antivan Crows, but perhaps it's hinting at changes to gameplay, too.

Sharing teaser images for Dragon Age 4 is something that BioWare's been doing for some time. The company isn't ready to unveil the game in more detail, but these pieces of concept art let fans' fill the space with their imaginations. They may need it waiting for BioWare to progress far enough to share more Dragon Age 4 announcements.

Dragon Age 4 is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
