Considering all the live-streamers who have risen to the forefront of popularity and following in recent years, none seem to have an as eventful career as Dr Disrespect. The strong personality of the Dr Disrespect character has seen the streamer rise to the top of multiple platforms, despite occasional controversies.
One of the most high-profile instances of controversy that Dr Disrespect found himself embroiled with came in June 2020 when Twitch, the site where Dr Disrespect had developed a lucrative platform, permanently banned the streamer with no warning or explanation. This led to various fan theories and rumors surrounding the departure, with Dr Disrespect being as vocal as he legally could against the ban, which he saw as illegitimate and damaging.
Dr Disrespect's Platform Switch to YouTube Gaming
As a direct result of this confusing permanent ban, Dr Disrespect was completely cut off from his audience that he had curated over the course of many years, as well as many sponsorship deals. The most obvious course of action for the streamer was to simply take his brand elsewhere, with the up-and-coming streaming side of YouTube Gaming being his platform of choice.
Disrespect made the switch in August 2020, with his first stream on the new platform garnering a massive 400,000 concurrent viewers. In this way, it is no wonder that "the Doc" quickly found some level of success on YouTube as he did on Twitch, with his YouTube account currently possessing almost 4,000,000 subscribers. Despite this success, it is fair to say that having to switch platforms during a peak of success has clearly had a negative effect on the channel, with Dr Disrespect reportedly having multiple plans, offers, and deals be undercut by this instance.
Although Dr Disrespect has been rather successful in his forced switch of platforms, it cannot be said that he is entirely happy with his new medium of streaming. Dr Disrespect has publicly criticized YouTube Gaming several times on social media since making the change, claiming that they do not support or recognize his channel despite the massive numbers he consistently commands.
Dr Disrespect's Lawsuit With Twitch
Dr Disrespect has been very vocal about taking legal action against Twitch since the ban occurred. While what he can publicly say about any legal action is obviously limited, it undoubtedly would have been concerning very high figures. The knowledge that Dr Disrespect was suing Twitch fostered many fan theories, which assumed that his ban from Twitch was illegitimate. With the high stakes of such a large-scale lawsuit, fans have been desperate to learn more about the legal case. However, it recently concluded in an equally confusing manner.
In early March, Dr Disrespect announced via Twitter that he was dropping the Twitch lawsuit. Within the bare-bones tweet, Dr Disrespect stated that the lawsuit had been "resolved," with neither side admitting to any wrongdoing. With the amount of money that is potentially involved with this situation, it is entirely plausible that it was settled out of court, but exact reasoning and outcomes remain and are likely to always remain unclear.
Despite this resolution, it was revealed that Dr Disrespect would not be returning to Twitch as part of the announcement. With two months having passed since the announcement of the lawsuit being dropped without any further communication regarding the feud, it seems clear that Dr Disrespect and Twitch have parted ways indefinitely. In this way, the mystery of the infamous ban will remain circulating online forever, remaining unanswered. Despite this, however, it is clear that Dr Disrespect fans still love his content.
