Splitgate is an arena FPS developed by 1047 Games that has blown up in popularity in recent months despite not having officially been released. Despite being the first one, the upcoming invitational tournament offers a giant $10,000 prize pool. With big names such as Dr Disrespect signed on to compete in the tournament, it's likely that more eyeballs will be on Splitgate in the near future.

Proving Grounds is well known in the esports community as they put on tournaments regularly. Splitgate will be joining several other franchises that Proving Grounds has featured which includes the likes of Overwatch, Dota, and Counter-Strike. This may not be the only Splitgate tournament that Proving Grounds hosts as it continues to gain in popularity.

Splitgate entered beta back in 2019, but it has seen a recent boom due to several factors, one of which is an influx of streamers checking out the arena shooter. The game recently experienced a massive spike in queue times due to the influx of players, but that issue has mostly been fixed. This upcoming Proving Grounds x Splitgate tournament may lead to another wave of new players with Dr Disrespect joining the lineup.

Several Dr Disrespect fans joined the announcement of his captainship with clips and memes of the two-time champion in action. The announcement of Doc joining the Proving Grounds x Splitgate tournament wasn't just full of congratulatory fans, however. Some Splitgate fans were keen to know the high prize pool being offered at the tournament and wanted to know how they could get in on the FPS action.

Several other content creators flocked to the announcement of Dr Disrespect joining this Splitgate tournament to promote their own promo codes. One witty Dr Disrespect fan was quick to point out that the Doc is still banned on Twitch and this may cause some issues with streaming on that platform. Many others Splitgate players asked how they could join the Proving Grounds tournament themselves.

Splitgate is in open beta right now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
