YouTube streamer and content creator Dr Disrespect is known for his hot takes and, at times, controversies. But between the takes, Dr Disrespect simply spends a lot of time playing games and sharing his candid thoughts on how they could be improved. The latest example comes from an Apex Legends stream, during which Dr Disrespect threw out his latest idea to take the battle royale to the next level. Dr Disrespect would like to see Respawn add Ranked Duos to Apex Legends.

The Doc was in between rounds of Apex Legends when the thought came to him. Without any apparent lead-in, Dr Disrespect told his teammate ZLaner that Apex Legends should have a Duos queue. "Feels like Duos would be pretty sick in this game," was Dr Disrespect's assertion. ZLaner quickly agreed, saying that the addition of Duos would be "phenomenal." ZLaner even goes so far as saying Respawn really "needs that" in Apex Legends.

Dr Disrespect then expands on the thought, saying that Duos Ranked is what Apex Legends really needs. Apex Legends currently only offers ranked queues for teams of three, but Dr Disrespect thinks that teams of two would be an exciting queue for ranked play, too. ZLaner adds that since Apex Legends lobbies are smaller than games like Call of Duty: Warzone, filling a lobby with teams wouldn't be frustrating in Duos. It would, however, allow for more teams to participate and so elevate the competition.

As for what prompted Dr Disrespect to bring up the subject of Ranked Duos, it was brought up seemingly at random by the YouTube streamer. The only connection was, perhaps, that Dr Disrespect was playing trios queues while only having one pre-selected teammate, ZLaner. Dr Disrespect was perhaps thinking about what a struggle it was to carry a third, random teammate, and how much more fun it would be if he and ZLaner could simply join a Duo queue.

All in all, it's not a bad idea. Duos would enable many more teams to join ranked queues without having to worry about finding a third party member. There are issues, though. Respawn likely wants its ranked queues to be focused so that queues are always snappy. It has also likely balanced the game around three-player teams. That's not to say Duos wouldn't work; it just wouldn't be the most optimal experience.

Funnily enough, this is a topic that Respawn has previously addressed. Dr Disrespect isn't the only Apex Legends player to voice that they'd like Ranked Duos, after all. During a Season 8 AMA, Respawn explained that a Ranked Duos mode would lead to an "ultimately unstable experience" given Apex Legends is built around three-player squads. That's a concession that Respawn isn't willing to make. With this in mind, it appears Dr Disrespect will just have to keep waiting for a third squadmate to log on going forward.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A mobile version is available in some regions.
