Earlier this week, popular Twitch streamer Herschel "Dr Disrespect" Beahm IV commented on the possibility of moving his brand to Microsoft's live streaming platform Mixer. Indeed, Dr Disrespect said that he had been offered a Mixer deal in the past, which he claimed to have turned down due to the platform's "extremely low" engagement. Now, Herschel has further addressed the prospect of a move to Mixer during a recent stream, indicating that it is something that he would "never do."
The reasons that Dr Disrespect outlines for his resistance to such a move is aligned with his previous statements about engagement, and he makes a direct comparison between concurrent viewers on Mixer and those on Twitch. More specifically, Herschel claims that Microsoft's streaming platform has "maybe a total of 40,000 to 50,000 concurrent viewers across the entire platform" at the time of his comment, while he states that Twitch has 1.5 million concurrent viewers during this same time frame.
Herschel suggests that this disparity is proof that "you can't pay for a community; you can't buy viewership." This is clearly a direct response to the recent deal between Mixer and Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, as well as the one that was made with Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek, and the suggestion is that Dr Disrespect would never move to Mixer because he believes that the community is simply not there for him.
Certainly, for streamers that want to reach as many viewers as possible, Twitch is the go-to platform at this time, and it is thus sensible that Herschel would not currently be interested in leaving for Mixer. However, it is possible that Microsoft will ultimately be able to establish a stronger foothold in the realm of live streaming, and perhaps Dr Disrespect will reconsider his position if that ever comes to pass.
Until then, though, fans can plan on continuing to enjoy the Dr Disrespect live on Twitch. Without question, his high-energy and directness, which was recently showcased once again when Dr Disrespect revealed how much money he made before streaming, has fostered quite a robust community, and it seems that these Twitch viewers will not need to worry about Herschel leaving them for Mixer any time soon.
