Dr Disrespect has made a name for himself streaming Battle Royale games for years now on both Twitch and YouTube. Known for his critical opinions of games such as Apex Legends, the streamer speaks his mind about the gaming industry. This time the Doc is doing more than speak, he is pursuing his dream of creating a new Battle Royale game and starting a studio to help make it happen.
Dr. Disrespect has previously expressed his desire to see a new type of Battle Royale challenge the top games in the genre, like Call of Duty: Warzone. After growing tired of the same design choices for these types of games, he developed the idea of a Battle Royale focused on verticality. Roughly three years on from the Doc's first comments about his new game idea, he finally decided to unveil two concept images of this new vertical Battle Royale after fans noticed a folder on his desktop. Reluctant to open the folder, the streamer eventually decided to let his audience see what he had been working on outside of streaming.
Coming as a surprise to many fans, the images showcased impressive art of a factory area named "Sector 5 - Machinery." Covered with streams of molten lava and numerous levels of intersecting walkways, the area appears to represent a possible level of the structure where the Battle Royale takes place. Another picture revealed a platform outside the main building called "Sector 3 - Wingsuit Platform Extraction." The main objective of the gameplay seems to revolve around players needing to move up the various levels of a large building to avoid fire spreading at the bottom of the structure.
To help make this dream a reality, Dr. Disrespect has started his own gaming studio. This news comes after a job opening was posted on the YouTube streamer's website looking for a studio head to run the development. It seems to be a collaborative effort focused on a "partnership with a select list of mega influencers.” According to the job description, the focus of the game seems to be on PC and consoles.
Dr. Disrespect is no stranger to venturing into other endeavors outside of streaming. A few months ago, the popular streamer released his first book, Violence. Speed. Momentum. He has experience in game design as well. Before his streaming career, he worked as a Call of Duty level designer. More recently, he had the opportunity to collaborate with the developers of Rogue Company to create a map for the third-person shooter.
Nothing that Dr. Disrespect does should come as much of a shock to his fans, given his many controversies as a streamer. However, this big move into game development from the Doc is worth watching for fans of the Battle Royale genre. Only time will tell if his ideas take off and have a shot at challenging the top names in the popular genre.
