Since the launch of the Iron Crown Collection event, Apex Legends players have been voicing their disdain for the event's setup of microtransactions. Many would argue that the skins associated with the event are some of the coolest put out by Respawn yet, but considering that playing the event only rewards two event packs, which are the only way to get the skins without spending real-world money, many players feel irked. Now, popular Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect has voiced his opinion in true doc fashion.

The event store for Apex Legends makes Dr Disrespect "want to throw up," calling it one of the worst stores in the history of microtransactions, and even criticizes the addition of yet another currency to the game in the form of Crowns."Who's the guy that approved this?" were his final words on the matter, and it's worth highlighting that the Doc has a point. The microtransactions for the event are obscenely aggressive, even for EA, and here's why.

There are a total of 30 cosmetics to be unlocked, 6 of which are specifically purchased by Crowns earned through completing challenges, yet these 6 are easily the bottom of the barrel. The other 24 cosmetics can only be unlocked through Iron Crown event packs, and playing the event only rewards Apex Legends players with 2. While games like Apex Legends need to incentivize microtransactions, this is trying to push players who are participating in the event to spend real-world money on 22 OTHER cosmetics.

On top of that, the next incentive push is Bloodhoud's new heirloom set, the Raven's Bite. After collecting the 24 cosmetics, which is impossible without spending money, it can be directly purchased for $35, and while that itself is expensive, heirloom items are quite envious in the community. It seems that if the event packs were less incentivized, this wouldn't be so big of a deal, but as it stands, getting the Raven's Bite will cost Apex Legends players over $170.

Respawn did respond to the Apex Legends' community, many of whom share the same opinion as Dr Disrespect, and offered a small fix for the situation. It will allow the store to rotate the legendary event skins for direct purchase at the price of 1800 Apex Coins in the coming days. This method will allow players to drop roughly $18 to guarantee the skin they want, but many believe that this makes the microtransactions no less heinous.

Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
