The first official public reveal is set for tomorrow at The International in Germany but a few Dota 2 gameplay screenshots have leaked that give us a peak at UI and a character selection screen.

The author of the post admits that the screenshots might be a few month old. As a result, the heroes shown on the selection screen might just be the roster at that time - meaning a larger set of characters might be on display tomorrow at Gamescom 2011.

The Dota 2 Gamescom trailer was released yesterday and teased players with some exciting prerendered Dota 2 battle sequences - while introducing some of the playable heroes. The trailer didn't show any in-game graphics so the screenshots are the first glimpse we've got at what the the same will look in action.

We've known for awhile that Dota 2 was going to attempt to balance new innovations with familiar gameplay mechanics - and the Fountain of Health and an incredible interpretation of Roshan appear to have made the cut into the sequel. The control scheme looks to be very similar to its Warcraft 3 predecessor - with some slight changes and a noticeably new "5th and ultimate" which could make you wonder if Dota 2 will be implementing player selectable abilities similar to League of Legends.

The mini-map shows a layout that is almost exactly the same as the classic three lane Dota map: teams in top right and bottom left corners and three rows of towers - before reaching the opponents' "ancient." Not to mention, the screenshots of heroes Doombringer, Shadow Fiend, Vengeful Spirit, as well as Dazzle show some solid graphical improvements.

Take a look and see if you like what Valve has done to improve the visuals in Dota 2:
