In about a month the gaming press and enthusiasts of the world will descend upon Los Angeles, California for E3 2015, the latest iteration of the annual gaming event. E3 2015 begins in earnest (read: the show floor opens) on Tuesday June 16th, but this year the event stretches as early as Sunday night, when Bethesda will host its first ever pre-E3 press conference.

So far, Bethesda has yet to say too much about their E3 2015 press conference, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. Most are hoping to see Fallout 4 at the event, if only because it’s been so long since Bethesda Softworks released a new game in their post-apocalyptic RPG series.

However, while Bethesda is remaining coy about a possible Fallout 4 reveal, they have today confirmed DOOM will be on-hand at their E3 2015 press conference. With a short teaser trailer, developer id Software promised the worldwide gameplay reveal for DOOM.

Now, technically this is not the first time that DOOM footage has been shown to the public, but rather the second “official reveal.” Back at QuakeCon, id Software gave select attendees their first look at DOOM, but did not release that footage to the public. Moreover, id Software enforced strict recording bans to ensure no DOOM footage got out. Some footage did get out, but only a small snippet of the larger presentation.

For E3 2015, however, there’s no more hiding. It’s time for players to see what the folks at id Software are cooking up. Based on the DOOM teaser trailer it appears this latest iteration will carry the franchise’s penchant for horrific creature design and devastating weaponry, but that’s truly all we can glean from the few seconds of footage.

By and large, though, it doesn’t appear DOOM is trying to reinvent the wheel as far as the series is concerned. We’ve already seen that some of DOOM’s iconic baddies will be returning for this reboot, and the focus of marketing thus far has been on preserving the tone and spirit of the original games.

Look for more information on DOOM and presumably a handful of other Bethesda games – including, hopefully, Dishonored 2 – during the publisher’s E3 press conference at 7pm PDT on Sunday June 14th. The event will also stream live through a number of video services.

What do you think of the DOOM teaser trailer? How would you like to see id Software evolve the DOOM series?

DOOM currently has no release date, but will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
