iD Software's DOOM is one of the most classic gaming franchises out there, having inspired a ton of different mods, including one that pokes fun at loot boxes, and shaping FPS games into what we know them as today. The game received a new, and unexpected, plugin on Christmas Eve thanks to Rich Whitehouse, a game designer and developer who has worked on projects such as Prey and Jedi Knight 2.

The plugin, titled "DOOMBA", allows users to make DOOM levels using the maps created by automated Roomba robot vacuums. To utilize the feature, players have to download the Noesis software, which is typically used by developers to help convert file types. The software also features an exsisting map generated by a Roomba, so even players that don't own a robotic vacuum can check out what the software can do. So far, Whitehouse has only tested the software with a Roomba 980 and is unsure if it will work with any other models.

Speaking about his creation, Whitehouse said, "I soon realized that there was a clear opportunity to serve the Dark Lord by conceiving a plethora of unholy algorithms in service to one of the finest works ever created in his name. Simultaneously, I would be able to unleash a truly terrible pun to plague humankind. Now, the fruit of my labor is born. I bring forth DOOMBA, a half-goat, half-script creature, with native binary backing for the expensive parts, to be offered in place of my firstborn on this fine Christmas Eve."

The software can be used for more than just Roomba generated maps too, as Whitehouse was even able to generate a map using the Mortal Kombat logo and any other plain image file should work as well. DOOMBA arguably comes at the perfect time, as DOOM recently had its 25th anniversary and DOOM Eternal was announced at this year's E3.

Hopefully, more mods like this will pop up in the future. It's evidence of just how creative developers can be, and DOOMBA is certainly on the more creative side of the spectrum as far as mods that have been made for the classic are concerned, though maybe not as harrowing as the Crash Bandicoot mod.

DOOMBA can be download from Rich Whitehouse's website.
