The irreverent and hilarious DC "superhero" show Doom Patrol just received the first trailer for the show's fourth season, and it looks like fans are going to be getting a wild ride. Along with a first look at the upcoming mayhem, the premiere date for the first part of season four was also announced, with the first part airing on HBO Max starting December 8.

The fourth season sees Brandon Fraser, April Bowlby, Diane Guerrero, Matthew Bomer, and Joivan Wade reprise their roles as Robotman, Rita Farr, Crazy Jane, Negative Man, and Cyborg respectively as they face off against a host of strange but deadly enemies.

After a third season filled with time travel, trips to the Underworld, larval tumors, and rampaging robots, it seems that Doom Patrol will be keeping up the momentum in the fourth season. The Twitter feed of HBO Max dropped the newest trailer over the weekend and there's enough mayhem and weirdness for several seasons, let alone one. Check out the new trailer below.

The trailer shows a shady underground facility that houses a secret government weapons program. The resulting experiment is classified as extremely dangerous and a shot of a scientist being killed and slammed against a large viewing window in a locked, mist-filled room is lifted straight out of the 1996 alien blockbuster Independence Day. Then the threat is revealed in an incredibly incongruous song and dance number. The threat appears to be singing butts that walk on their hands that are performing a choreographed routine to the song Shipoopi.

Along with the bizarre new threat, there's a look at the team getting into various scrapes including a clip of them going up against an enemy who is shooting an extremely powerful energy beam from his groin. The trailer also shows more of Michelle Gomez reprising her role as Madame Rouge from season three after joining the team in the finale.

Doom Patrol is based on the DC Comics team of the same name, created by writers Arnold Drake and Bob Haney, along with artist Bruno Premiani. The television series was created by Jeremy Carver (Supernatural, Being Human) and sees a team of superheroes brought together under the guide of Chief (Timothy Dalton) to help them manage their abilities and learn to use them for good. The show originally streamed on DC Universe before transitioning to HBO Max and has consistently garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Doom Patrol Season 4: Part 1 will premiere on HBO Max on December 8.
