Bethesda and id Software showed off some new gameplay of Doom Eternal, the follow-up to the 2016 reboot of Doom, at QuakeCon 2018. Now, more details about some of the game's other modes, like multiplayer, are starting to come out.
While the game will still have multiplayer, the modes available will not be similar to what was offered in 2016's iteration of Doom. On top of that, it seems Doom Eternal will not feature SnapMap. For those unfamiliar, SnapMap allowed players to create things like their own customized maps. From the way things sound, the updated multiplayer modes will be taking its place in the game.
id Software Executive Producer Marty Stratton stated that a new PvP mode being worked on will tie into Doom Eternal's single player campaign, and will still feel very much like Doom. This sounds like good news, as many felt the multiplayer on the 2016 release was a bit tacked on, only adding run of the mill modes like Capture the Flag and Deathmatch.
Outside of the multiplayer modes, the studio is looking to expand the offerings in the single player game, as well. Post launch story DLC has been confirmed for the title, and is one of the main things the developer is focusing on for Doom Eternal. DLC isn't the only thing coming to the campaign, though, as a Dark Souls-style invasion system will be implemented, too, meaning players can run amok as demons in other players' campaign missions. Multiple invading players can even team up for form their own pack of bloodthirsty demons.
Doom Eternal was revealed earlier this year at E3 2018 during the Bethesda press conference. At that time, fans were told to expect more information, including gameplay, to be revealed at QuakeCon 2018. While the new gameplay and information on the game's story and new modes have got those fans even more excited, no information regarding the title's launch date has been revealed just yet.
Doom Eternal currently has no release date, but will be launching on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
