The minimum GPU requirements for Doom Eternal, which is the first game to be developed using the id Tech 7 engine, are the same as the recommended settings for 2016’s Doom. Also, players who fall closer to the minimum specs will only be able to play the game using low-quality settings in 1080p at 60 FPS, while those lucky enough to meet the recommended specs will experience Doom Eternal in 1440p and 60 FPS at high-quality settings.

The proprietary id Tech 7 engine created by id Software allows for greater draw distance, increased texture fidelity, overall improved image quality, as well as higher quality motion blur, anti-aliasing, and geometric detail. The new game engine has also made possible the introduction of the “Destructible Demon” system, which will allow players to progressively see the damage they inflict on enemy bodies and armor.

The story of Doom Eternal takes place two years after protagonist Doom Slayer has wreaked havoc on Mars and closed the portal to Hell that had been opened by an overly ambitious scientist. This time, Doom Slayer travels to Earth to save the planet from annihilation, battling new demons with an improved arsenal of weapons.

Doom Eternal will be released on March 20, 2020, for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch version is planned for later in the year.
