Id Software's Doom Eternal came bursting onto the scene early last year, with Switch and current gen ports arriving a bit later on, and is regarded as a successful follow-up to the 2016 Doom reboot, with some even considering it superior. Since Eternal's Horde Mode was added recently, the game is now even more challenging for those who perhaps wanted that extra bit of spice in the already high octane FPS. There's also been a recent patch, but it seems as though it's having some problems being compatible with the latest Nvidia drivers.

According to a report, Doom Eternal received a hotfix recently, implementing a standard round of bug fixes and tweaks, but players are noticing that, since this update and the latest Nvidia drivers rolled out, there are some noticeable errors in the game. The most obvious, the community says, is related to the ray tracing and upscaling features, with the game experiencing performance issues. It's not yet clear whether it's the Doom update or the new GPU drivers that are the cause of the problem, but the report goes on to say that id and Nvidia are working together to find a solution.

Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling tech, or DLSS, is a key algorithm in today's modern games, allowing for sharper looking graphics comparable to higher resolution visuals running natively, so it's understandable that fans may be disappointed that it's not working optimally. Some people on Steam and Reddit have said that there is a workaround. Players can switch chromatic aberration on and off in the options, which has fixed the problem for some, but may not work for everyone. It's also been recommended to roll back Nvidia drivers as well.

Doom Eternal has had bugs in the past which patches have fixed, so it's likely that either the developer or the GPU conglomerate will be quick out the door with another update. In the meantime, fans are being encouraged to report any issues with the game by submitting a crash report on the Bethesda help page.

In the meantime, it's possible that Id Software is currently working on a new game, according to a listing Australian Classification Board website. With Doom Eternal still being a hugely popular, and fast-paced, shooter, it will be interesting to see what the Texas-based studio will come up with next. For many fans, the important thing right now is that the developer works closely with Nvidia to see if they can sort this DLSS and ray tracing problem out.

Doom Eternal is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
