It's hard to believe that the worldwide release of Doom Eternal is a mere five days away. Both Bethesda and Id Software have teased this game since E3 2018 and now that it's almost here, fans can hardly wait any longer. However, while Doom Eternal is right around the corner, the game director and developers are already thinking about what comes next.

Doom Eternal is a game that truly needs no introduction. This sequel to the 2016 smash hit Doom has been in development for quite a while and fans have gotten more and more excited as time goes on. The developers have also insinuated on multiple occasions that Doom Eternal will have some intense system specifications, making it one of the most ambitious games of 2020. So much so that fans are actually questioning which platform will possess the best version of the game.

With all of this being said, this new, highly anticipated title is not even out yet and both Bethesda and Id Software are already discussing the future of the franchise. In a recent interview with Hugo Martin, the game director of Doom Eternal, he discussed how both studios are continuing to expand the series and how new ideas continue to be brought to the table. This almost certainly means that this new Doom series will continue past Doom Eternal. Not to mention everything the developers have done to innovate beyond what was presented in Doom (2016).

In addition, Martin also discussed potential DLC for Doom Eternal. He obviously did not go in depth in terms of what that DLC could possibly look like, however, it has been confirmed that there will be single player DLC released at a later date. This would seem to coincide with the theory that the storage size of Doom Eternal might imply that the length of the campaign was cut.

For many fans, this news should be rather joyous. Seeing as it took Id Software a full twelve years to produce a new Doom game, it's certainly re-assuring that the franchise reboot will continue past Doom Eternal. Though, more than that, it's especially nice to see that both Bethesda and Id Software have continued to dedicate so much attention towards the technical development and innovation of the Doom series.

Conversely, it does seem rather irksome to have the lead director tease a potential new Doom installment several days before the newest game in the series releases. Fans of the series have much to look forward to in terms of Doom Eternal and perhaps instead should focus on what they know instead of what they don't know. In any case, from what Bethesda and Id Software have already shown of Doom Eternal, this game looks to be an unforgettable experience.

Doom Eternal is set to release on March 20th, 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
