Doom Eternal released on March 20 after weeks of crossover art and memes with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Now that players have a week of demon-crushing action under their belts, Rocketwerkz' Senior Director and New Blood Interactive head Dave Oshry has revealed an unused pistol in id Software's latest game that is still accessible via console commands.

Oshry posted a video of himself activating the weapon using a Cheat Engine on Twitter Thursday, saying he heard it was scrapped "because it didn't really fit the combat flow." However, the Doom Eternal devs still put a huge amount of time into developing something that looks great and flips between different types of shots.

The design of Doom Eternal was taken in a more mobile, platforming-heavy direction than Doom 2016. That platforming has not sat well with all players, and having a more compact weapon with smaller firing capacity like a pistol may not have meshed well with the variety of huge weapons and flashy finishers designed to mow through devilish monsters and hellspawn.

That said, there are still a number of weapons to use in Doom Eternal, even with the pistol being cut. It should be interesting to see what other content fans find hidden in the game's code going forward.

Doom Eternal is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. A Switch release is planned for the future.
