With the release of DOOM Eternal on the horizon, many fans are likely ready to dive into anything DOOM-related, especially after the solid gameplay that was showcased some months back. Yesterday, though, when the trailer for Doom: Annihilation dropped, many fans likely had high expectations that were seemingly not met.

This new DOOM movie from Universal 1440 Entertainment is a direct-to-video adaptation of the popular video game franchise, which is self-described as an "intense action-packed new installment." At the time of this writing, however, this trailer sits at over 500K views, 13K dislikes, and only 948 likes.

The movie follows a group of space marines as they journey to a Martian moon and face demonic creatures threatening to release Hell on Earth. The comments on the trailer are overflowing with an overwhelming backlash from DOOM fans. Comments include that "DOOM 2005 wasn't that bad in comparison," "DOOM is about a guy, not a team," and others including one wordplay-heavy comment about his desire to see this movie being annihilated. Of course, with this type of backlash, many looked to the official DOOM Twitter account for a response, as many perhaps feared what this meant for DOOM Eternal.

In a quick response to the negative fan reception, this official Twitter account simply replied, "We're not involved with the movie." This came in response to a query about the team's thoughts about the movie trailer, and some deemed this response a passive-aggressive statement. Whether or not that is the case cannot be exactly confirmed, but many of those who had an issue with the Annihilation trailer are likely relieved that it is not involved with the DOOM Eternal game.

Both Annihilation and Eternal are currently set to release in the fall. This reveal trailer is all that is known about DOOM: Annihilation, but still very little is known about the next installment in the video game franchise. We do know that it will feature story DLC, however.

We also know that a PVP multiplayer function will replace the SnapMap feature in DOOM Eternal. However, fans will simply have to wait for more details to be released until the DOOM Eternal team is ready to reveal more.

DOOM Eternal has no release date, but is expected to release late 2019 for the PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
