The latest entry in id Software's iconic shooter, Doom Eternal, was one of the most critically-acclaimed games of 2020. The sequel took all that worked in Doom 2016 and ramped it up a notch in an effort to make the arena fights a test of both cunning and one's sheer aiming prowess. Bethesda and id Software have shown additional love for Doom Eternal with the Ancient Gods DLC's episodic model, with the next episode releasing at some point in the near future.

The first episode, titled The Ancient Gods: Part One released in October of 2020, and enjoyed great critical and commercial reception. The second part is scheduled to get a trailer next week on March 15th. While a decent amount of hype already exists for the reveal, the reveal trailer ought to go big to capture even more of fans' attention.

Doom Eternal is Almost a Year Old Now

It might come as a surprise that Doom Eternal is almost a year old now. The base game released on March 20, 2020, at a time when most fans were already locked in their homes. Doom Eternal proved to be a great time, as the meaty campaign took players through a number of diverse and interesting locations. Even with a bunch of endgame challenges and supplementary difficulties, many fans were left clamoring for more.

Doom Eternal's The Ancient Gods: Part One released in October of last year, giving players more of what they wanted, and quickly became one of the best DLCs of 2020. However, the jarring gap of nearly a year between two moderately sized content chunks means players who didn't purchase the Season Pass may have moved on to newer games. This doesn't necessarily imply that newer FPS games have taken its place, but that it didn't quite have the longevity to keep players coming back for more. The second part is a continuation of the first's narrative, and thus the trailer should take such a chance to convince fans to get back into the game.

A Meatier Trailer This Time

Doom Eternal's The Ancient Gods: Part One did a fine job with its reveal trailer, which showed a bunch of new enemies and cinematic footage. However, much of it was based around ramping up the challenge from the main game, with a shot of two marauders making a jump on the Doom Slayer at the same time. While it's expected that the next part would continue with the theme of high difficulty, this trailer should focus more on the sense of scale and bringing a conclusion to the story.

Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media has just been finalized, which provides an opportune time to shine. While the rumored Bethesda-Xbox event seems to be scheduled for March 11, it could prove a great opportunity to pitch in Doom Eternal's final piece of DLC. It could be a great opportunity to tease the DLC and build up more hype for the final reveal trailer on March 15. Bethesda could capitalize a lot by making the trailer about the Ancient Gods DLC as a completion for the game's narrative, and maybe even introduce a complete edition of the game with all the included DLCs in a handy package.

Doom Eternal is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
