DOOM Sets Deathmatch Mode Reveal for Next Week

Bethesda teases an upcoming free update coming to DOOM which adds new features such as private matches, and a free-for-all style multiplayer Deathmatch.

One of the surprise hits of 2016 is getting ready to dish out even more content for fans. Fresh off last month's Quakecon event (and after releasing the first premium DLC pack known as Unto The Evil), Bethesda is lining up another set of content for the gory shooter, DOOM. Players who have been clamoring for more multiplayer modes should be satisfied with this latest update.

Known as Free Update 3, this upcoming content pack for DOOM finally brings with it a highly requested mode: Free-for-All Deathmatch. In addition, players will finally get access to private matches, allowing them to not only set the maps and modes that appear, but to alter other settings as well. Hosts can tweak everything from the score or time limit values, to even turning off some features as well, such as the demon rune or power weapons spawn.

In addition to the livestream tease which gives a glimpse of the new content, more details soon followed and teased the addition of another brand new mode centered around the campaign. While details regarding the mode are scarce, Arcade mode is being set for release in another free update later this fall. Speculation has already begun that this mode will add some sort of scoring system to the campaign, pushing players to score more points for speed and kills rather than focus on the story and cut scenes.

Players who want to see these new modes in action should tune into Bethesda's Twitch channel on Tuesday, September 13, at 2PM ET. The reveal stream features id Software’s Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin showcasing the new features and modes coming for free to the game. In addition to a custom DOOM themed Xbox One giveaway, players should also expect to see another tease over that mysterious new Arcade mode coming later this year as well.

This update joins an already impressive list of post-launch support for DOOM which Bethesda outlined at to E3 this past year. Already fans have seen major updates and enhancements to the game since it launched. Many of these updates have been free like a dedicated photo mode, numerous SnapMap enhancements and content additions, along with various fixes and improvements to the fast-paced multiplayer. Two new multiplayer modes were also added recently like Hexodus, a capture the flag style mode, and Sector, which tasks players with capturing and holding specific points on a map.
