In the world of competitive arcade gaming, Donkey Kong has a long and dramatic history. For example, the video game world records association Twin Galaxies stripped original record holder Billy Mitchell of his achievements. However, the arcade game's global leaderboard now has a new king, and he streamed his record-winning attempt on Twitch.

Robbie Lakeman, the new Donkey Kong record holder, earned 1,260,700 points in one continuous run on stream. Previously, Lakeman held the world record with his score of 1,247,700 points until John McCurdy took the top spot in 2019 with a score of 1,259,000 points on Twin Galaxies' leaderboard. While Twin Galaxies has not validated Lakeman's victory, the Donkey Kong player has finally reclaimed the top spot.

For speedrunning and world record enthusiasts, Lakeman recorded all four hours of his runs on Twitch. After he completed his record-breaking playthrough, Donkey Kong veteran Billy Mitchell congratulated Lakeman on Twitter for racking up an "incredible" score.

Although Lakeman's new high score is impressive, it might not be the highest score for long. After all, McCurdy's world record only dominated the leaderboard for 11 months. It's clear that Nintendo's classic arcade machine has a highly competitive scene. While history has been made, Donkey Kong fans should still keep their eyes peeled for the next world record.
