To celebrate the return of our favorite lovable big ape, Nintendo added an official Donkey Kong History Trailer to the European Donkey Kong Country Returns press kit, and it’s cute enough to make Steve Wiebe blush. There is no denying the fact that Donkey Kong has had a very distinguished history, including an epic feud and a documentary on who is the King of Kong, so it is not surprising that Nintendo is showing off it’s 30 successful years of gorilla madness in a fun new ad.

Because the history part is only 30 seconds (the other 30 is the ad for Donkey Kong Country Returns), there are bits of the history that are missed; however, the highlights are well spotlighted by Nintendo. Why this video was only released in the European press kit is anyone's guess, because seeing the nostalgic gameplay just might get gamers wanting to dust off their old Nintedo Entertainment Systems. More importantly (for Nintendo), it might start them pondering going down to the store and picking up a copy of the new game -- and really, isn’t that the whole point of a promo video? Take a look at the Donkey Kong History Trailer:

Banking on nostalgic success is not a card that Nintendo is shy to play. Half the reason Mario is so successful is because of the fan base that fondly remembers a simpler time with coco, cookies, and Super Mario Bros. 3.

If you are old enough to remember the old table top Donkey Kong game that used to sit in stores and pubs around the world, then this video is directed squarely at you. Remember fondly putting that first quarter into Donkey Kong, and 30 seconds later doing it again, trying to figure out what just happened there? It is that nostalgia that Nintendo is banking on for sales, because not only will the memory sell the games, it is those memories that will have us sharing these games with the generations to come.

So what do you think of the nostalgia video? Does it remind you of your first arcade experience? Or perhaps it has you dusting off your old NES. Comment bellow and share with us your first Donkey Kong experiences. Was it like mine where it passed so fast I hardly knew what happened, or was it an epic tale that could take on Billy Mitchell? Let us know!

Donkey Kong Country Returns is available now for the Nintendo Wii.
