One of the main perks of being a Nintendo Switch Online subscribers is the ability to access retro games, primarily from the NES and SNES era, outfitted with modern day conveniences like save states, rewinding, and more. Nintendo adds new games to the Switch Online library of titles on a regular basis, with the next batch set to drop on December 18. And once this batch is released, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will have access to all of the Super Nintendo Donkey Kong Country games.

Nintendo recently announced the Switch Online NES and SNES games for December 2020, and they are headlined by Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble. The third game in the critically-acclaimed series from Rare, Donkey Kong Country 3 is not quite as well-known or well-regarded as its predecessors, but still earned quite a bit of praise at the time of its release. The game was overshadowed by the launch of the Nintendo 64, but now provides a unique opportunity for those who missed out on it to give it a proper chance.

In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, Dixie Kong and new character Kiddy Kong join forces to stop King K. Rool, who has managed to capture both Diddy and Donkey Kong this time around. The game features similar graphics and gameplay as the first two games in the series, but has some new features thrown in, including new animals that players can utilize across the various levels.

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble won't becoming alone when it debuts on the Switch on December 18. It will be joined by other SNES games like The Ignition FactorTuff E Nuff, and Super Valis 4. Meanwhile, Switch Online subscribers can also look forward to the NES game Nightshade as well.

The addition of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble marks the last main series Donkey Kong Country SNES game that was needed to complete the collection on Switch. It remains to be seen what other NES and SNES games will come to the Switch Online subscription service, so perhaps Nintendo will move on to other systems soon. There have long been rumors that Nintendo 64 games would be coming to Switch Online at some point, though it seems more realistic that Game Boy games would be coming first.

If Switch Online adds Game Boy games next, it seems likely that the Donkey Kong games from that handheld would make it to the service. This would include titles like Donkey Kong LandDonkey Kong Land 2, and Donkey Kong Land 3, alongside the many other classic Game Boy era games that released over the years. For now, though, Switch Online subscribers can look forward to Donkey Kong Country 3 coming to Nintendo's hybrid home console/handheld hybrid on December 8.
