Doki Doki Literature Club, released for PC in 2017, remains a success as it captivates players with its brilliant game writing and cutesy character designs. Yet despite the latter, the story is far darker than it appears. The game's unique nature and design has blown the minds of players, who hasn't expected anything shocking from a seemingly lighthearted game.

Replaying the game to see all the secrets hidden doesn't make the narrative any less frightful, saddening, and touching. Instead it only makes the fans wish for more, which has been granted with the new Doki Doki Literature Club Plus released on June 30, 2021. Every character has their own story, so read on to find out how each one ends.

Sayori, The Bundle Of Sunshine

A cutscene with Sayori in Doki Doki Literature Club

Sayori is the first main character the protagonist will see in the game. She's a neighbor who also happens to be their childhood friend. She knows how to handle social conflicts well, despite unknowingly putting the protagonist in uncomfortable situations sometimes. Her innocence, cheerfulness, and the fact that she values happiness the most are what make her the youthful bundle of sunshine.

But despite the warmth Sayori exudes, a raincloud follows her everywhere, as she deals with hidden depression. She and the protagonist used to spend a lot of time together, but it all stopped when Sayori realized the raincloud isn't going away anytime soon. It's affecting her more and more every day.

With the protagonist joining the Literature Club, wherein she's the Vice President, they started spending time together again. But it stops. Again. Only this time — forever.

How To Get Sayori's Ending

No matter the effort the player has put into for Sayori to be happy — the poems written for her, the time spent doing club activities and walking home with her, the confession they've made — nothing will change. The player can take whatever route they want in Act 1 and will still get Sayori's ending.

Yuri, The Timid and Mysterious One

A cutscene with Yuri in Doki Doki Literature Club

Yuri is the second main character the protagonist will meet upon entering the Literature Clubroom. She's a shy and quiet artist, barely speaking her mind. But when she does, she can come on too strong because she hasn't had the opportunity to work on her social skills. Instead, she spends most of it burying her face in a book or doing solitary activities at home.

Delighted to meet a new member of the Literature Club, she shares her love for deep fantasy, horror, and well-crafted complex stories with the protagonist. Upon learning that they've only been reading manga, she later bought two copies of a book title: Portrait of Markov, which she convinces them to read.

Yuri slowly opens more of herself to the protagonist by giving writing suggestions and occasionally saying mean things about others, which she apologizes for. But as time passes by, she starts having a hard time controlling herself. When she can no longer hold it all in, her own intensity drives her to her death.

How To Get Yuri's Ending

Write poems using Yuri's preferred words (found here) in Act 2. On the day the Literature Club starts assigning tasks to the members for the upcoming School Festival, Yuri shows her final poem to the player, a mysterious poem made especially for them. She becomes even bolder and confesses her love for them, which leaves the player to accept or reject her — and stay with her all throughout the weekend.

Natsuki, The Deceivingly Cute Girl

A cutscene with Natsuki in Doki Doki Literature Club

Natsuki is the third main character the protagonist will meet after seeing Yuri in the Literature Club. Unlike Yuri, she isn't shy when it comes to speaking her mind. She initially appears to be a first-year student who has an unpleasant attitude. Upon meeting the player, she doesn't hold back her reaction: "A boy? Way to kill the atmosphere." She loves baking cupcakes, which all the members love because of how cute and delicious she makes them.

Natsuki loves anime and manga, and she stores her collection in the Literature Clubroom. It's the only place where she can enjoy them without being teased and judged. She has a way of writing poetry that clashes with Yuri's writing style.

As the protagonist writes poems for Natsuki, she shows them her soft side. She shares her struggles at home later on, and shows how much she actually cares about Yuri, despite having quarrels with her. She shows a hard front because of her bad experiences around people. Even without a death scene, her ending isn't any less disturbing.

How To Get Natsuki's Ending

The player needs to dedicate two poems for Natsuki in Act 2. By the third day when they share their poem with her, they'll witness her ending. To write poems she'll love, use Natsuki's preferred words in Act 2, which can be found here.

Monika, Leader Of The Literature Club

A cutscene with Monika in Doki Doki Literature Club

The last main character the protagonist meets when entering the Literature Clubroom, Monika is the center of it all. She's the only girl other than Sayori that the protagonist is familiar with, as they were in the same class in the previous year. She introduces herself as the leader and is pleased to welcome a new member. She's  popular because of her beauty and skills, although she lacks the skill to manage social conflicts.

Despite starting the poem-sharing club activity, she's the only character the protagonist can't dedicate a poem to — not until later. The player should pay attention to her well-written poems, as they contain subtle clues about the story.

The protagonist can't spend as much time with Monika as with the other members. Not because she's always occupied, no. Rather, it's because there isn't an option for that — well, not until she makes one herself that can last forever.

How To Get Monika's Ending

Players must progress through ACT 1, ACT 2, and ACT 3 to get to her ending, wherein she will confess to them and give them an idea of what to do next. Will they stay or leave? The decision is up to the player.
