Last year, Doctor Who fans with VR headsets got a chance to travel with The Doctor in virtual reality. Doctor Who: The Edge of Time may not have made as big a splash as Half-Life: Alyx, but it nonetheless provided an opportunity to see things like the TARDIS and classic Doctor Who enemies in VR.

Now, the developer Maze Theory is following up the game with Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality. Rather than being limited to virtual reality devices, players who missed out on the prior experience will get a chance at this one, as it's coming out for major consoles and PC.

Maze Theory initially announced Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality back in May, and now the game has a release window. It's set to launch during Spring of 2021, and will be available on the PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam. While the game is a spin-off of The Edge of Time, Edge of Reality will provide new gameplay and areas to explore.

For long-time fans of the series, likely the most exciting news coming from Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality is the addition of the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant. Tennant hasn't been a part of the television series since The Day of the Doctor aired back in 2013, though he has returned to the role in radio plays since then, and will reprise the role here.

Fans of Doctor Who will likely find something to enjoy here, although some may be disappointed at the apparent lack of VR this time around. Of course, Maze Theory hasn't shown any gameplay yet, so it's possible that VR may still be supported on the PC version, and perhaps even for PS VR. For now, though, fans will have to wait to see exactly what they can expect from Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality.

Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality will release in Spring 2021 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
