Devil May Cry DmC Release Date

DmC, the contentious reboot of Capcom's popular Devil May Cry franchise, has finally been given a release date. Though Capcom has already projected sales numbers for Devil May Cry (along with Resident Evil 6, Lost Planet 3, and Dragon's Dogma) they hadn't officially announced a release date for DmC until now.

Some are claiming that the release date for DmC, January 26, 2013, is in fact part of a delay given that it was assumed the title would launch in 2012, but that seemed less and less likely. Sure, new footage, trailers, and screens have been released throughout the year, but neither Capcom nor Ninja Theory had committed to a firm release date.

In stark contrast to DmC was Resident Evil 6, which, upon being unveiled, was brusquely given an October release date. Clearly DmC was being given plenty of time to come into its own, and for fans to learn to understand Ninja Theory's new take on the series.

As was mentioned before, DmC has a seriously tough uphill battle ahead of it, most of which revolves around shaking off fan backlash regarding protagonist Dante's redesign. Despite Ninja Theory proving they are a developer on the rise with both Enslaved and Heavenly Sword, Devil May Cry fans were wary of a character that bares no resemblance to his past iteration. Trailers featuring Dante in "devil trigger" mode showcase a familiar form, though, but the game is still open to a ton of skepticism.

Unfortunately, according to the press release from Capcom, this January 26th release date only applies to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of DmC, with no mention being made of the PC version. On the flip side, though, this release date also applies to European territories as well (no word on if Japan might be getting the game a little earlier).

Are you disappointed to learn that Devil May Cry won't be releasing in 2012? Will the title have a better chance to rediscovering its audience in a less cluttered January?
