DJ Hero 2 & Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock Demos Available Now

DJ Hero 2 and Guitar Hero- Warriors of Rock Demos Available Now on Xbox LIVE

Rhythm game fans rejoice, you have some nice tidbits to get you ready for the Fall explosion of titles coming your way. Out of the myriad of music franchise sequels, two of the biggies have demos available now on Xbox LIVE. To give both mixmasters and couch rockers a taste, Activision has brought DJ Hero 2 and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock demos for your consideration.

Fans will go gaga over DJ Hero 2, which features all-new multiplayer modes and an all new career-based Empire story mode. DJ Battle mode includes mixes produced specifically for battle gamplay. Also, vocalists can enter the spotlight with integrated on-screen singing and rapping of lyrics and rhymes. The game will also have the jump-in/jump-out gameplay introduced in Guitar Hero 5. The set list includes 83 unique mixes.

This demo includes four exclusive mixes:

  • Pussycat Dolls “Don’t Cha” mixed with Pitbull “I Know You Want Me
  • Lady Gaga “Just Dance” mixed with Deadmau5 “Ghosts N Stuff
  • MSTRKRFT “Bounce” (Battle Mix)
  • Estelle featuring Kanye West “American Boy” mixed with Chic “Good Times

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock gives us a peek into the new story-based Quest mode, which is narrated by Gene Simmons of KISS. The 90+ track set list includes rockers from Black Sabbath and Megadeth to the anthems of Queen, Muse and KISS. The full set list can be found at Game Rant here. The game boasts more unlockables and collectable rewards than ever before, in addition to Party Play, competitive modes, and a host of all new gameplay features.

This demo includes four songs:

  • Black Sabbath - “Children of the Grave
  • Foo Fighters - “No Way Back
  • Slash featuring Ian Astbury - “Ghosts
  • Dethklok - “Bloodlines

I don't have a turntable for the 360, so I can't check out the DJ Hero 2 demo. The Warriors of Rock demo, however, is quite interesting to say the least. The opening cinematic is epic, with a barbarian-like character fighting some kind of huge robotic mech. Once you get into the story mode, it has an aesthetic that reminds me of Brutal Legend. Gene Simmons does a gravely voiceover for the narration, which adds to the ambiance, but may get grating over time. The HUD interface and "You Rock" screens at the end of songs closely resemble that of the latest iteration, Guitar Hero 5. For vocals, a Karaoke setting is included, and the Xbox headset is an option for a microphone. The real test will be with the multiplayer options, but personally I will have to wait for the final product to make any judgment there.

One thing we know for sure, this Fall we will see new iterations of all the major music game franchises. It's awesome to get a sneak peek at these two titles. Well, now I have to go and buy batteries for all of my plastic instruments.

Tell us, Ranters, are you excited for these two upcoming music titles, or are you feeling rhythm game fatigue?

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock brings the noise on September 28 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Nintendo Wii.

DJ Hero 2 will drop on October 19 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Nintendo Wii.
