A new glitch in The Division is preventing some players from being able to log in, effectively locking out a growing portion of the player base from accessing the game.

The Division may be one of the most popular games of recent years, but that doesn't mean everything about the game is sunshine and rainbows. The pandemic-based third person shooter has run afoul of a new glitch that is preventing some users from connecting to The Division servers, effectively stopping them from accessing the game at all.

This bug stems from another problem, where crafted items are disappearing, which causes an error when players go to connect to The Division at a later time. The error stops the login process from occurring due to a backend issue, effectively meaning thousands of agents are waiting on the sidelines for the new IP's first game-breaking bug to be fixed.

Ubisoft made a post on the official support forums yesterday acknowledging the issue, and seem to be in the early stages of fixing the problem - they're asking gamers afflicted by the problem to report additional information like platform type and error code number, and seem to have narrowed the problem down to High End Backpacks:

We are aware that some of you are experiencing an issue where you are locked out of your account. This is usually caused by having crafted a High-End backpack. We are looking to resolve this, it's one of our main priorities at the moment.

Some users are saying they were able to bypass the bug when items started disappearing by transferring some of their gear to the stash, which brought back the missing items and restored order to the game. We recommend that gamers experiencing the disappearing items bug try out this tip right away, before the glitch prevents them from logging in at a later time.

The recent 1.02 patch has already fixed the now-infamous Loot Cave farming glitch, which may have actually ended up giving players some of the high-end backpacks that have caused the inventory glitch issue to rise to prominence. Unfortunately, the initial patch also broke The Dark Zone and brought a level of chaos usually only seen in movies like The Purge. Thankfully, the former glitch has been fixed, though those with a problematic inventory are left waiting on an update from Ubisoft.

We'll keep you posted when a hotfix is released from Ubisoft Massive. In the meantime, players waiting for the fix can keep checking out the official support thread here.

Have any of you Ranters witnessed this bug?
