Tom Clancy's The Division series has been met with a predominantly positive reception and has only continued to grow over the last few years with a whole slew of free content updates. While the first game didn't quite live up to its potential, Division 2 sought to rectify that, and for the most part, it succeeded. And with the success of The Division 2, it only makes sense that Ubisoft would want to keep the Division train rolling, and that's exactly what it's doing with The Division: Heartland releasing some time in the next year or so.

Currently, the only official details known about Division: Heartland are that it will be a free-to-play game, and that it's current release date is slated for the 2022-2023 fiscal year, which ends in March 2023. Aside from these details, fans know little else, but there have been some pretty in-depth leaks, some of which come from a pretty viable source.

The Division: Heartland's Rumored Game Modes

According to the known leaker Tom Henderson, who has also revealed a variety of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 details over the last year, The Division: Heartland will feature two main game modes. The first of these game modes is "Excursion," where players will be able to team up against AI and explore the game's large map. This mode will apparently act as a tutorial for the game's primary mode, "Storm."

The Division: Heartland's "Storm" game mode will apparently take a leaf out of Escape From Tarkov's book, being a PvPvE mode that tasks players with exploring a massive open-world map, looting as much as they can, and escaping the map with all their loot intact. All the while, players will need to avoid or defeat the rest of the player-populated lobby, along with some tough AI foes.

The Division: Heartland's Rumored Open World

The Division: Heartland will feature one massive map, named "Silver Creek." Though exact details on Silver Creek's biomes and points of interest aren't known just yet, the map will reportedly feature a wide variety of locations, each one filled with useful loot. Unlike contemporary Battle Royales like Fortnite and Apex Legends, The Division: Heartland's map will not shrink over time with gas that creeps in gradually; instead, gas will appear at random intervals in random locations.

To avoid these random gas pop-ups, players will need to scavenge and craft gas masks, which they can then use to continue exploring the map. Upgrade stations, called "Strategic Homeland Division Beacons," will also appear throughout Silver Creek, allowing players to spend their resources on a variety of upgrades like supply drops or gas clearances. When players have looted all they can, they'll need to successfully extract their goods. If players manage to successfully leave Silver Creek, they'll head back to their Base of Operations, with all their loot in tow. Once here, players can use their resources to upgrade their weapons, abilities, and craft new items that they can take with them in the next match to gain an advantage.

The Division: Heartland's Rumored Classes

Along with some character customization, The Division: Heartland will also allow players to pick from at least three different character classes. According to the leaks so far, these classes include the Medic, Weapon Expert, and Survivalist classes. As should be expected, each of these classes comes with its own unique set of abilities.

The Medic class will apparently be able to regenerate their team's health while in cover and share health kits with their teammates. For the Weapons Expert, they'll be armed with tracking rounds that mark an enemy after they've been hit, along with the ability to share armor kits. And the Survivalist is able to see unopened loot crates through walls when crouched and can share their gas mask filters.

The Division: Heartland is currently in development.
