Agents returning to The Division 2 after playing the first game will see a few familiar sights, ranging from trash-filled post-pandemic streets to encountering Hunter units that will put up a tough fight. As it turns out, the flare gun also makes its return in The Division 2, although it can only be used in specific locations, and only when these locations are controlled by enemy factions. Gamers won't be able to light enemies aflame with their agent's flare gun, but that doesn't mean it can't be used to turn the tides of battle in their favor.

To use a flare gun, players first need to be within a control point that is controlled by an enemy faction. Once players have entered into this contested zone, a red overlay will indicate that an enemy faction currently claims the turf. This is when the flare gun becomes a usable entity, and a prompt to use it will soon appear in the UI just above where the ammunition and health bars are displayed. A text prompt will ask the player if they'd like to use a flare gun, with a console-specific button indicator being displayed. Pressing and holding this button will, of course, have the agent shoot a flare up into the air.

Once this happens, the fight to overtake the control point is on! NPC allies will begin swarming to the area to assist the player in the turf war. If successful, the player will take over control point and will be rewarded with access to a nearby loot room. For control points, these rooms typically have pretty good gear - which is why the enemies guarding these control points tend to put up a good fight.

Capturing control points offers more than just loot, too: they're a great source of extra experience points. Each control point will have an NPC leader patrolling the area, and talking to this individual will typical reveal three resource requests. You can easily junk some items for these resources and toss them the NPC's way, earning a little experience reward each time you do so.

Control points also act as a fast travel point, saving you from trekking all around Washington when you don't have to. It's worth noting that some hidden side missions have popped up near control points, so being able to fast travel to these locations is all the more handier.

The Division 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
