Massive Entertainment's first-person shooter The Division 2 received its Warlords of New York expansion at the beginning of March. Though not everyone was happy with the DLC's issues– like stability, poor loot, and damage sponge enemies– there was a hefty amount of content introduced meant to keep players engaged with the game for some time.

However, the expansion's bugs have been hard to avoid. One such issue at release locked players out of their Xbox One accounts. Another, which has persisted, allows players to exploit the game by multiplying their weapon's damage-per-second (DPS) stat to obscene levels and stacking augmentations, known in-game as talents. Today, The Division 2 team announced they will be handing out one-week suspensions "starting immediately" to anyone who utilized this DPS Glitch.

Anyone who receives a suspension will have their progress rolled back to March 17th, and will be flagged for permanent suspension if they commit further offenses. The announcement, posted to the Ubisoft forums, says the glitch goes against The Division 2's Code of Conduct and creates an unfair advantage that has been "detrimental" to PvP, the game's economy, and has "negatively affected the enjoyment of the game for many."

Looking at footage of the glitch online, it's not hard to see where the developers are coming from. For example, YouTuber Kamikazevondoom uploaded a video Thursday showcasing how to take advantage of the exploit on console, though it's also on the PC version that can cross-play with Google Stadia. Using it, he was able to create a rifle that outputs 2.1 million DPS with a number of talents.

The Division 2's Warlords of New York expansion has been full of issues since launch, but this is the first major action taken by Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment. The announcement of these suspensions came shortly after a three-hour server maintenance that fixed other bugs like players receiving self-damage when killing certain enemies affected by the Full Flag debuff.

In the same forum post about today's maintenance, The Division 2 team describes a Title Update coming next week and promises more updates throughout April. Hopefully, these updates will iron out as many bugs as possible so players can go back to unlocking new weapons and completing secret quests.

The Division 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
