Make no mistake, The Division 2 is a game intended for people to play with friends. Much of the content is designed for four-player squads, and the game will also feature eight-player raids that will require significant coordination and teamwork to conquer. Even so, there are some gamers that are lone wolves and would rather play through The Division 2 solo.

Massive Entertainment has made it clear that it is possible to play through The Division 2 solo, but as some have come to discover, it's certainly more difficult than tackling the missions with friends. Due to this, it's important for The Division 2 solo players to choose the best skills possible early on to improve their performance in missions.

1. Assault Turret or Striker Drone

The very first skill The Division 2 solo players should unlock should be either the Assault Turret or the Striker Drone. Functionally, these skills are somewhat similar, allowing players to deploy a gadget that can effectively act as an extra teammate. The main difference is that the Striker Drone is mobile and will follow players around war-torn Washington, D.C., whereas the Assault Turret is stationary.

Whether one goes with the Assault Turret or the Striker Drone first is up to personal preference. More defensive players may want to use the Assault Turret, as it can be easily placed on top of cover and take out any enemies that are trying to flank. Solo players that play The Division 2 more aggressively may want to consider the Strike Drone instead. Regardless, we definitely recommend one of these be the first skill players unlock.

2. Reviver Hive

This skill is huge for solo players, and will make playing through The Division 2 solo much less frustrating. Typically, The Division 2 players can be revived by teammates when they are downed, but solo players don't have the same advantage. The Reviver Hive can revive downed solo players in The Division 2, giving those playing solo a second chance they otherwise wouldn't have. We recommend the Reviver Hive be the second skill solo players unlock in The Division 2, especially as the missions start to ramp up in difficulty.

Once The Division 2 solo players have the aforementioned skills unlocked, then they can basically unlock any of the other skills in whatever order they would like. While it largely comes down to personal taste, some skills are arguably better than others, and so solo players looking for further guidance on which skills to unlock first should check out our list of the best skills in The Division 2. Almost everything is viable, though we do not recommend the Firefly, as it seems to be the least useful skill in our testing.

For any Division 2 players who aren't quite sure how to unlock skills, it basically boils down to playing through the main story missions. Some of the main story missions come with a skill point as a reward, and so once players complete them all, they will be able to unlock all of the skills in the game. It's going to be a long road to that point, but selecting the skills listed here will make the journey a little easier for solo players.

The Division is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
