Similar to other tactical RPGs, Divinity: Original Sin 2 has its fair share of hidden unlockables that can take a player’s playthrough to the next step. These take the form of Relics of Power; equipment sets that not only add a new visual flair for players to acquire but also provide various capabilities that step up a character’s combat performance. Among these four sets is the Contamination Set, a plant-themed armor that comes from a corrupted magical source.

In order for players to acquire this item in Divinity: Original Sin 2, they first need to complete the Seed of Power quest. And unlike other RPGs where a convoluted questline often leads to a rare item, Seed of Power isn’t exactly a complicated quest to finish. Players do, however, need to be careful how to approach the quest to make it as easy as possible to finish.

The Four Relics Of Rivellon

The Four Relics of Rivellon

Before players get into completing the “Seed of Power” quest, it helps to understand the context of the Divinity Original Sin 2 questline itself. At its core, the “Seed of Power” comes from The Four Relics of Rivellon DLC that was originally released on June 14, 2020, but has become “Gift Bag #5” in the Definitive Edition of the game. While pursuing these Relics is optional, Original Sin 2 completionists might commit a grave mistake by skipping out on them.

Aside from bug fixes, this DLC adds four quests that lead to one set of unique armor, with each component of the set scattered throughout the realm of Rivellon. Given there are four sets, it’s likely that the game aspires for the player and their three (3) companions to wear them should they eventually find all of them. Unlike other games where items like these are mere collectibles, the quests involved when getting these items are often gripping and lead to more insights regarding Rivellon’s mysterious past.

Enter The Seed Of Power

Daeyena and a Spore

Similar to the journey of locating the other Relics of Rivellon in Divinity Original Sin 2, the Seed of Power questline only begins when players stumble upon the necessary requirements. In this case, the quest only activates when players find a shipwreck in Fort Joy during Act 1, just after they create their Divinity: Original Sin 2 character.

Afterward, the quest updates regularly depending on where the players find its various parts across Rivellon. It’s advised that players explore all areas across the game’s Acts in order to ensure they don’t miss relevant interactions, as the quest only makes progress once players get to interact with essential figures throughout the questline.

Daeyena, Fort Joy: Greaves of Contamination, Boots of Contamination

Daeyena in Fort Joy

Players “begin” the Seed of Power quest once they go north of Turtle’s Beach in the Fort Joy area. This is located around the furthest north of the map, making the shipwreck something tricky to find unless players maximize their Divinity Original Sin 2 mobility Skills. When they arrive near the shipwreck, they will see an elf, Daeyena, being cornered by various magisters. Gamers have two options here:

  • If players decide to help the magisters interrogate Daeyena, she dies while the players get the Greaves of Contamination and the Boots of Contamination. It’s recommended that an elf character “eat” the remains of the dead Daeyena to learn the Trigger Spores Skill, as well as acknowledge where the spores came from.
  • If players help Daeyena, the magisters die, and they obtain a Contaminated Magister’s Foot. They can have an elf character eat that item to learn Trigger Spores, one of the more interesting Original Sin 2 Skills. As expected, Daeyena leaves with the Greaves and Boots, but players have another chance to obtain these items.

Reaper’s Coast, Main Area: Gauntlets Of Contamination

Gauntlets of Contamination

Players who let Daeyena survive will get another chance to meet her in Reaper’s Coast, at around X:437, Y:319. This time around, Daeyena is seen outfitted with plant-themed armor, evidently the Greaves and Boots of Contamination. Talking to her in Divinity Original Sin 2 will have Daeyena demonstrate how she’s created her armor thus far by casting magic to a magister incapacitated by one of the spores. This creates a pair of gauntlets, the Gauntlets of Contamination. She then instructs players to head to the Blackpits to gain the other armor pieces. Again, players have options here:

  • If Daeyena died in Fort Joy, players won’t meet her here. They should proceed to the Blackpits immediately.
  • Fighting Daeyena will allow players to loot all existing armor pieces she has thus far at Level 14.
  • Having Daeyena killed prior to creating the Gauntlets doesn’t stop the quest. Rather, players can simply cast Trigger Spores on the magister to create the Gauntlets. Remember, an Elf like Sebille may be able to learn Trigger Spores by eating the Contaminated Foot of a dead magister back in Act 1.

Reaper’s Coast, Blackpits: Cuirass Of Contamination

Cuirass of Contamination

When players head to the Blackpits sub-area in Divinity Original Sin 2, they can proceed to X:716,Y:164 to grab the Spore Research note. This is a multi-use item that players can use to have everyone in the party learn Trigger Spores. Afterward, players can find the Cuirass of Contamination on the hill near the Blackpits, with a magister guarding it. Players have the option of fighting the guard here, which they can easily best with their Original Sin 2 Talents.

Players who let Daeyana die at Fort Joy will also find a magister with a contaminated spore here. That way, players can still cast Trigger Spores upon that magister to obtain the Gauntlets that Daeyena should’ve shown players in Reaper’s Coast.

Arx, Reimond’s Basement: Helmet Of Contamination

Helm of Contamination

The final piece of the Contamination Armor is the Helmet of Contamination, located in Arx. To find this, players must first go to Reimond’s basement to find spore research notes in X:64,Y:13. After that, they can proceed to the research facility entrance at X:375,Y:230. When players enter the area, they can finally obtain the Helmet, therefore activating its curse.

Interestingly enough, players can circumvent the curse’s effects if someone with Persuasion 5 wears the Helmet. If not, that character will have permanent Madness that stops when the wearer is killed.

The Contamination Armor

The Contamination Armor

Similar to other Relics of Rivellon items and characters in Divinity Original Sin 2, the Contamination Armor has a specific theme and bonuses according to their associated storyline. In the context of the Contamination Armor, this plant-themed armor is the result of corrupted magical research involving the usage of spores to inflict various sicknesses on victims. Here are relevant aspects of the armor players need to take note of:

  • Heart Of Contamination (Set Bonus): This boosts the armor’s level to Level 19 but comes with a Madness that forces the wearer to lash out at attackers.
  • Rooting Corruption (Ability): Once per turn, physical damage will cause the armor to shoot a toxic projectile in the direction faced by the wearer.
  • Bonuses: +75% Poison Resistance (all pieces), +5 Intelligence, +3 Constitution, +3 Wits, +4 Hydrosophist, +4 Geomancer, +2 Loremaster, Immunity to Knocked Down, Immunity to being teleported.
  • Debuffs: -2 Sneaking, -0.5 Movement.
