The Polymorph tree in Divinity: Original Sin 2 has a little bit of something for everyone. It has become agreed upon across the community that the Polymorph tree has skills that are useful for almost any build imaginable.
Through the use of this tree, players can alter their own body to gain an advantage on the battlefield or, if they are feeling spiteful, they can transform an enemy into a chicken. Many things are possible through the use of Polymorph spells. That is why it just may be the best skill tree to invest in out of them all.
10 Free Attribute Points
Attribute points are what players invest in their physical and mental capabilities. Things like Strength, Intelligence, and Wits all fall under the player's attributes. One of the best bonuses that the Polymorph tree has is giving the player a free attribute point for every point they invest in Polymorph.
For players who invest heavily in the Polymorph tree, they can increase their main attributes by a lot. All these bonus points can really help players increase their damage whether they are going for spells or weaponry.
9 Versatility
The Polymorph skill tree is the most versatile out of any in the game. There is something for anybody no matter what type of build they are working on. While other skill trees can offer a few attacks or abilities to help out a build with added healing abilities or defense abilities, the Polymorph tree offers more necessary skills.
The Polymorph tree has attacks, buffs, and debuffs that can help out a player in most situations, if not all of them.
8 Turning Enemies Into Chickens
One of the best abilities in the Polymorph tree can be grabbed right away. At the cost of two action points, anyone using the Polymorph tree can utilize the Chicken Claw skill to turn a target into a chicken. Not only does this prevent the enemy from attacking for two turns, but it also makes the enemy wander around.
This skill can be combined with others like Rupture Tendons to make the enemy take damage each time they move. It can also be used to trigger attacks of opportunity from nearby allies.
7 Flying
The Polymorph tree has amazing movement due to the Spread Your Wings skill, which makes wings grow out of the player's back. They can then use these wings to fling themselves across the battlefield. The flight given by this ability has a low action point cost and can be used each turn.
On top of being able to use the Flight ability, Spread Your Wings allows players to fly over hazards on the ground when moving normally. This can allow them to avoid hazards both on and off the battlefield.
6 Immunities
Polymorph is all about attacking or debuffing enemies. Sometimes a player might be interested in buffing themselves against various attacks. The Polymorph tree offers players the ability to gain immunity against certain skills.
The skills Jellyfish Skin, Poisonous Skin, Icy Skin, and Flaming Skin each offer some type of immunity to the player. These immunities also make the player bleed elements that can help during battle. Icy Skin makes the player bleed ice across the battlefield, while Poisonous Skin does the same with poison.
5 Source Skills
Say a player wants to use multiple source skills, this can be difficult because they only get three source points in total, and getting them back costs precious action points. That is where the Apotheosis skill comes in.
This skill makes it so players can cast any source skill for only the action point cost. That's right, using this skill makes it so source points aren't required for any skill for two whole turns.
4 Able To Instant-Kill (Almost)
Getting an instant-kill is extremely hard in Divinity: Original Sin 2. It can only be done by some of the best builds. Players who take kindly to the Polymorph tree can use some of the skills to practically instant kill an enemy once their physical armor is gone.
Players who choose to grab the Living on the Edge skill can use it to make themselves unkillable. They can then drain their health down to one and use the Forced Exchange Polymorph skill. This will swap the health of the player with whatever enemy they choose. Works exceptionally well on bosses.
3 Polymorph Can Sort Of Heal
The Polymorph tree has a little something for everybody and that includes healing. The type of healing from the Polymorph tree isn't the traditional healing and shouldn't be used until a player is desperate, but it is also very useful.
Equalise is a skill that has a large range and takes every character's health inside the radius and evenly distributes it back. Say a character is almost dead, they can use this skill to get their health back up while lowering the enemy's vitality.
2 Bull Horns
The Warfare tree is pretty great, and one of the reasons for this is the Battering Ram skill. This skill allows players to close the gap in battle and is perhaps one of the best close combat skills in the game. Polymorph has this skill too, but it's slightly different.
Bull Horns makes the player grow horns and allows them to rush enemies. When an enemy gets hit by this rush, it causes them to bleed. Some buffs from other classes work very well with this skill as well.
1 Capable Of Skills At All Times
One of the best things about the Polymorph tree has to do with its capability to use skills no matter what. The Polymorph tree is filled with both magical and physical skills.
If a player using this skill tree gets silenced, they can still use some of their skills. If they end up getting atrophied, they can still cast magical skills. Some of these are dependent on if the skill was used before the debuff happened; for example, Bull Rush needs to be used before a player is silenced, but once it is cast, the skill can be used since it is physical.
