Dissidia Final Fantasy is the best-selling game on the PSP, which isn't a surprise, considering it's a fighting game featuring Final Fantasy characters. When a sequel was announced back in September, people understandably expected to see the game sell as well, if not better, than its predecessor.
Now, Square Enix has announced something to entice newbies to buy their upcoming title - while also giving fans a snack to tide them over until the game's release.
A new digital prequel available on the PlayStation Network titled Dissidia Duodecim Prologus is en route. The title is a bit of a mouthful, but will be of interest for those looking for some background story on the upcoming game. If the title wasn't a giveaway, it takes place before the events of Dissidia 012[duodecim] Final Fantasy, and will focus on the protagonist from Final Fantasy 13, Lightning. The game will tell the events leading to the upcoming full title - as well as Lightning's role in them.
If that isn't enough of a clincher, any items players gain in Prologus will be carried over to 012[duodecim]. So if you're looking to get an advantage from the start of the upcoming game, this is the way to do it. The real incentive, however, could be in an exclusive special character - if you buy Prologus, you will unlock Aerith Gainsborough from the much-beloved Final Fantasy 7 as an assist character for 012[duodecim]. Due to the character's tragic storyline in Final Fantasy 7, Aerith is considered to be, not only the most beloved character in the classic game, but possibly the entire Final Fantasy franchise. Any fan would be happy to have her in the title.
Is the inclusion of Aerith Gainsborough enough for you to give this game a download? How do you think Lightning fits into the story for the upcoming game?
Dissidia Duodecim Prologus Final Fantasy will be available for the PSP, through PSN for only $2.99 on March 15 - one week before 012[duodecim]'s release.
Dissidia 012[duodecim] Final Fantasy will be released for the PSP on March 22.
